George Talbot, Marketing Manager at Accountz joins us this month to talk about the future of accounting in an increasingly digital world that is seeing more and more cloud-based and ‘do it yourself’ software, and shares his top personal SEO secrets and the important teachings of Nikola Tesla.

What is special about Accountz as a business? Number one: our team. We manage to serve an international audience of over 100,000 users with an extremely small team! This allows our business to be extremely responsive, allowing for those ‘water cooler’ moments which help improve the service we provide for our customers. It also gives us the ability to react quickly if a customer is having difficulties, we don’t hide our direct telephone numbers, so if a customer wants to call us they get straight through to a member of the Accountz team. There is no listening to lists of potential options from a machine; our users simply get straight through to a real person.

Can you tell us what long-term goals Accountz is currently working on to improve the business? We actually got our customers to help us decide on our long-term goals... we sent out a series of questionnaires to our business and home users asking which parts of the software they felt needed improvement and what features they would like to see in the future.

As a result we are developing a mobile phone application, allowing users on smartphones and tablets to have access to and the option to edit their financial data anywhere they go. Alongside that, there is a web space where users can edit their various add-ons and Cloud packages. We are working on getting the site to show a user’s financial data as well. However we will not abandon our desktop application as it is always safest to keep your data secure on your computer… with back-ups of course.

Another exciting project we are planning on is a sales operation in Africa; their economy is growing steadier plus bigger companies are emerging out of the area, whom we feel we can help.

What sort of things does an accounting firm find to post on social media sites to keep audiences engaged? We work with a good team of business bloggers. We find articles which will help business owners in the long run. For example SEO secrets for CEOs or even just marketing advice. We have a lot of entrepreneurs who use our software and they find the information really useful... then again we do like to give our users a bit of a laugh once in while so we have been known to post something to make the lunch break a little easier!

You’ve recently celebrated your improved Google ranking position. What SEO secrets can you share for first time business owners? LISTEN TO THE EXPERTS. Our primary issue was a horrendous amount of back links which were created when Google accepted them to judge a websites reliability. However they change their rules for ranking spots regularly so you can find yourself as a top hit one day and then on page 25 the next!

Keep an ear to the ground as to how Google are ranking websites. Also, if you can, having an SEO expert on hand is always a plus! For those who are just starting a business you should check out our blog
