Embracing the Cloud The launch of Zycko’s Cloud Portal is imminent, promoting managed services and Lifecycle Management solutions to the Channel. And it’s no surprise that, as part of this overall Cloud strategy, Zycko has worked closely with Riverbed to co-develop a portal, with automation, licensing and subscription- based offerings, and fl exible fi nancing. “It’s exciting and obvious for Zycko,” says David. “We’ve timed our entry into this marketplace, initially with load-balancing on-demand.”


And the Zycko Portal is a great example of how the Channel can add value to the Cloud for its resellers, rather than act as a margin-taking middleman, as David explains: “Riverbed offers certain functionality and options, depending on what the reseller is buying, how he’s buying it and what he’s using it for. If a Cloud provider goes direct to Riverbed, they have to sign up to what might seem like some tough conditions. With our Channel/Cloud offering, we’ve added extra information and functionality and more fl exibility.


“The analogy I use is that of someone going to the airport to catch a fl ight. They can either go direct to their fl ight, or can take


advantage of the duty-free and various other attractions pre-boarding. So, a reseller can simply get their license from us, or they can get things like reporting, maybe source other solutions from our Cloud ecosystem and take advantage of our fl exible fi nancing. I’m confi dent that both the vendor and the reseller see the value in this approach.”


With a well-known service provider already signed up for a projected multi million pound managed services contract, it seems like the Zycko model makes sense – with the customer in question wanting Zycko to be their Riverbed expert.


David believes that Zycko’s Portal will be a signifi cant driver in terms of the company’s growth strategy. He says: “We can sell the tin, the licensing and the professional services to our partners to help them establish managed services. We’ve spent the last 18 months talking to our customers, found out what they want, how they want to buy it, and the value they are seeking. And we’ve listened and now we’re launching our portal, which we’re hoping people will want to join – we’ll see!”


The offi cial Portal launch announcement is due very soon, so readers will be able to judge for themselves the worth of Zycko’s Cloud strategy.


NFV service chaining ADC architecture

KEMP Condor is an application on-demand delivery framework, delivered as a bare metal software solution independent of proprietary hardware. It offers managed and cloud service providers a scalable route to market for offering highly profi table software subscription services.


KEMP Condor will be targeted for deployment on all KEMP supported bare metal platforms including Cisco UCS B and C series, HP ProLiant DL, Oracle x86 and Dell PowerEdge R-Series servers, enabling KEMP authorized partners multiple options for delivering their end customer solutions with fl exible, incremental scaling consumption models.


Geographical growth Set alongside the vision for Zycko’s technology expansion, David is addressing the need to ensure that the company has suffi cient breadth and depth of coverage right across the EMEA region.


Plans are afoot to open selected new offi ces, most notably to grow Zycko’s presence in Africa and the Middle East. As David puts it: “We’re fi lling out our regions which, incidentally, are all profi table; fi lling in some of the gaps and continuing to look outwards for expansion, which should put us in a strong position for next year.”


David concludes: “These are exciting times for us. I’m convinced that we have more opportunities than ever before, and when you think of the uncertainty surrounding the distribution business, and the Channel more generally only two or three years ago due to the economic climate, I can’t help but be bullish.


“Even though we’ve lost a handful of our vendors (mainly due to acquisition), we still grew during this period and, while other distributors have grown through acquisitions, we’ve specialised, held our nerve and stuck to our principles. With such a great stable of fast growing products, why wouldn’t I be excited about the future?”
