TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION

uality Electronics Design S.A. (QED) have launched a new online book, ‘Good Vibrations’, it is a detailed introduction to vibration based durability testing. Originally released at the end of March 2014 it has now also been made available as a CD version. The pdf version of the book allows a quick search on any issue explained in the book and allows an easy installation on your laptop or on your vibration control system. The book offers high resolution colour pictures, graphs, formulae, tables and examples on more than 380 pages. The book starts with an introductory explanation about fatigue damage due to vibrations, this is the basic theory behind vibration testing and explains what is happening to the Device Under Test (DUT) during a test.

Shaker testing is used in most industry sectors including Aerospace, Automotive, Transport, Military, Electronics although the actual testing is carried out by vibration test engineers who will find this book invaluable it also provides an important reference guide for design engineers who specify tests and products. The standards in the field of vibration testing are “the” reference for the definition of test specifications. However, the background and the language of the norms and standards are not always understood. Here the book is a bridge between the design department and the test lab. The book also discusses issues like the mechanical and the electrical installation of a shaker and the alternative solutions to improve the quality and the dynamic range of signal transmission. With respect to the installation of a shaker the energy losses are calculated and illustrated.

An accompanying free Excel® file gives the reader the tools for gRMS and maximum displacement calculations of a random profile as well as calculations of displacement, velocity and acceleration for a sine profile in addition to resonance.

LOW-COST,LOW PROFILE TEMPERATURE TRANSMITTER

The Labfacility 300TXLP is a compact ,low-profile 4-20mA temperature transmitter with an overall height of only 23mm. It can be housed in low profile enclosures or in a DIN block ter- minal head. There is a choice of ranges for Pt100 and thermo- couple types J,K,N,T,R & S.

A key feature of the transmitter is the minimal-interaction span and zero calibration potentiometer action which is time saving and convenient when scaling or offsetting; an exceptionally

wide range of adjustment is provided by the potentiometers to allow for easy re-calibration of the 4-20mA temperature range.

The 4-20mA loop powered transmitter provides an accuracy of ±0.2% of span for thermocouples type J,K & N and ±0.1% for Pt100 sensors. The output is directly proportional to the mV input signal for thermocouples and to the temperature input for Pt100 sensors.

The 300TXLP is CE and RoHS compliant and is guaranteed for 2 years.

Thermocouple cables are offered with many alternative insulations and configura- tions for types J,K,E,T,N,U and Vx colour coded to IEC-584-3. Alternative colours to BS1843, ANSI and JIS are also available. Insulations include PFA, PVC, PTFE, Polyurethane, glassfibre and stainless steel overbraided glassfibre. The PFA and PTFE insulated cables are all of Class 1 tolerance to ensure high accuracy meas- urements.

Cables for PRT sensors are available with single and duplex conductors and a wide range of insulation types including Silicone Rubber.

anner International has introduced two new Hydra-Cell® Dosing Performance Pump ranges with mechanical flow rate adjustment. Because seal- less Hydra-Cell pumps are true positive displacement pumps, flow rate is directly proportionate to input shaft speed and virtually independent of system discharge pressures. Very precise, infinite adjustment of shaft speed is achieved through a simple manual adjust hand wheel. The variable speed gearboxes operate on the elasto-hydrodynamic principle, producing output torque by means of a traction fluid. This removes the possibility of mechanical slippage between input and output, potentially experienced with friction type variators. The Hydra-Cell G03/G13 dosing range accommodates repeatable, steady flow requirements up to 310 litres per hour at pressures up to 100 bar and flows up to 490 litres per hour at pressures up to 70 bar. The Hydra-Cell G10 dosing range accommodates repeatable flow requirements up to 732 litres per hour at pressures up to 103 bar and flows up to 1470 litres per hour at pressures below 50 bar.
