Micro-etched components for surveillance UAV
n innovative miniature surveillance helicopter is benefitting from the high precision manufacturing capabilities of Precision Micro, Europe’s leading photo chemical etching specialist. The miniature unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), features an array of small, lightweight and extremely precise components manufactured by the UK based company, a division of global engineering group, Meggitt PLC. The UAV engine operates using miniature motor laminations, etched to tight tolerances. The laminations utilise Precision Micro’s ‘R bond’ technique, which uses the photo resist protecting the material surface during chemical etching as the bonding agent. This novel approach offers improved performance versus conventional punched, riveted or welded laminations. A further engine component, which requires micro radii, can only be produced by combining Precision Micro’s photo chemical etching and wire EDM technologies.

Ectane inspection system added to Ashtead Technology rental fleet
A
shtead Technology has been appointed ‘preferred rental partner’ for the Ectane® tube and surface inspection system by Eddyfi NDT Inc. The Ectane is a high-performance surface array and multi- technology tube inspection system employing ultrasonic, eddy current and electromagnetic technology for the detection and assessment of flaws such as cracks or corrosion in conductive materials. Ashtead’s Neil Harrap says: “As a compact, lightweight, battery-powered instrument offering high levels of accuracy and performance, the Ectane is more advanced than anything else on the market, which means it delivers a better assessment of the application – enabling users to conduct faster, easier, more effective inspections and therefore to make better decisions.” This is the first time that the Ectane has been available to rent in the UK, and typical applications include manufacturing, power generation, oil & gas, aerospace, research and higher education.

Livingston Becomes Rental Partner for Teledyne Lecroy Oscilloscopes

ivingston has taken further steps to ensure that it has the market’s most expansive rental portfolio. The company has just announced a supply chain agreement with leading oscilloscope manufacturer Teledyne Lecroy, which will make Livingston rental partner for its flagship high speed oscilloscope offering, as well as a broad selection of other key products. Targeted specifically at cutting-edge telecom applications, such as 100G Ethernet, Teledyne Lecroy’s LabMaster 10 Zi is a high performance multi-channel oscilloscope with dual pole coherent modulation. It is universally recognised as the highest speed real- time oscilloscope available, with a 65GHz bandwidth and a 160GSamples/s sampling rate. Up to 1024Mpoints of analysis memory can be integrated into it (depending on the model). Each unit comes with a built-in 15.3-inch WXGA widescreen display supporting touch screen control. Data can be passed from the oscilloscope to a connected PC at 7. 325MBytes/sec using the unique serial interface bus.

These units are power limited (750W/1500W) which gives the engineer the flexibility of having a much a wider voltage and current output than you would normally expect on a conventional power supply. To increase the mounting efficiency, it has a 19-inch rack width which is only 1U high and cooling runs from the front to the back which means units can be stacked on top of each other. The series is equipped as standard with USB, RS-232C, and LAN interfaces, which are essential for system upgrades. The series also has a virtual multi-channel bus (VMCB) function that allows it to be used efficiently for remote control and monitoring with 1-to-N and as well as with N-to-M in large-scale networks. In particular, the LAN interface is LXI compliant*, enabling you to control and monitor the power supply easily from a browser on a PC, smartphone, or tablet.
