40 Product News LG launches heat pump range
LG IS introducing the Therma V Monobloc air-to- water heat pump range, which complements the existing Split Range 9kW – 16kW.
Available in sizes from 3kW to 16kW, Therma V offers low/medium temperature heating and domestic hot water supply plus an easy to use controller and guides.
LG claims it offers class-leading energy efficiency
thanks to its cutting edge inverter technologies and intelligent features to enhance operational longevity. Proportional-Integral (PI) logic enables the new model to operate up to 30% more efficiently than a conventional model, while LG’s BLDC inverter compressor also saves energy, using around 40% less electricity than a typical AC motor at low speeds and 20% less at high speeds, the company says. The newly designed wide louver fin and optimised heat exchanger path help to conserve energy, boost reliability and facilitate an improved heat exchange rate. It comes equipped with a durable inverter water pump that further minimises unnecessary energy consumption. LG
Heat pumps gain triple approvals
TOSHIBA Air Conditioning’s Estia heat pump range is believed to be the first to achieve full approval under three key industry certification bodies, the MCS, British Kitemark and NFPAC approval schemes. The most recently awarded NFPAC mark certifies compliance with energy performance and sound power levels in accordance with European standards. The three approvals apply to the full Estia range, including Toshiba’s latest 4 Series, spanning heat pumps from 8kW to 14kW heating capacity. Following this, Estia heat pumps have been specified on a very large residential development currently being rolled out.
General manager of Toshiba Air Conditioning UK, David Dunn, said: “The triple approval for Estia is, we believe, an industry first and gives complete reassurance to customers and end users that the product complies with the very latest standards. It also enables clients to gain financial assistance through the MCS/RHI scheme.” Toshiba plans to extend the Estia range in the near future to meet anticipated growth in demand for heat pumps. ☎ 01372 220240 Andrews Chiller Hire offers cool solution
ANDREWS Chiller Hire has modified the proven technology of its highly efficient chillers to create a new, versatile heat pump range. This now enables the firm to hire out equipment designed to maintain fairly constant, comfortable ambient temperatures in temporary structures
and existing buildings with ineffective temperature control systems. The firm operates from 35 nationwide depots and can respond rapidly to provide 24hr/365 day support.
The first heat pump to be launched is based on the successful 200kW fluid chiller. It is a robust, powerful and easily portable, skid mounted unit able to deliver 200kW (682,400 Btu) whether in the heat or chill mode.
The new heat pump chillers have a reversing or three-way valve fitted which reverses the flow of refrigerant through the unit, the equipment role of the chiller being reversed; the evaporator becomes the condenser and the condenser becomes the evaporator. Andrews Sykes
ACR News July 2014 EcoMESH offers improved performance
ECOMESH adiabatic air inlet cooling improves the performance of air cooled chillers, dry coolers and condensers and refrigeration plants.
http://partner.lge.com/uk
It is a mesh and water spray system that improves performance, reduces energy consumption, eliminates high ambient problems, is virtually maintenance free and can offer payback in one cooling season. EcoMESH offers lower running costs; reduced maintenance; it is easy to retrofit; it offers improved reliability; increased capacity; it has a self-cleaning filter; offers shading benefit; there is no water treatment and finally it offers a longer compressor life. THE new FloCon Watchman from SAV Systems combines the proven benefits of commissioning modules with electronic monitoring to support ‘soft landings’ for hydronic heating and cooling systems. FloCon Watchman provides visibility of performance at ‘zone level’ rather
than whole system level, so that problems can be quickly pinpointed and remedied. By operating in zones, it also makes effective sub- metering financially viable, compared to installing meters on each terminal unit. SAV’s FloCon commissioning modules bring all the control valves for a group of terminal units into one location. The modules also incorporate SAV’s Watchman electronic flow measurement device, enabling continuous monitoring of flow rates, temperature differential (T) and energy consumption for each zone of units, providing better visualisation and understanding of each zone’s performance. Key benefits of FloCon Watchman include easy installation and commissioning with the ability to easily fine-tune and ‘de-bug’ the system. SAV Systems
Heat pump air curtain added to ETL
MITSUBISHI Electric’s range of Mr Slim heat pump air curtains has been included on the Government’s Energy Technology List (ETL). This enables companies using the air curtains to offset the capital costs against the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) Scheme.

The ECA-listed models offer several innovative improvements over traditional air curtains, including the addition of Thermoscreens’ Ecopower Air Technology, which enhances the air velocity projection and uniformity and the energy effectiveness/savings – delivered through an air plenum, converging nozzle and active cellular grille. The air curtain is available on both the Mr Slim and City Multi ranges as either a recessed or free-standing unit and comes in standard lengths of 1m, 1.5m or 2m, to make the product suitable for almost any front door. The range of heat pump air curtains has been developed by Mitsubishi Electric in conjunction with air curtain manufacturer Thermoscreens, to offer even greater energy and carbon savings, easier installation, servicing and maintenance and lower noise levels.
