From The Top 11 It’s a team game


In the first of a regular column for ACR News, Ian Carroll, sales and marketing director of FG Eurofred tackles the importance of playing in the same direction.


WHAT OTHER TOPIC could I start with than the World Cup, which we have been living with for weeks.


Don’t worry, I’m not going to go on about 4-4-2 and games of two halves – it’s just that, while watching the tournament, it struck me that we as an industry can learn a lesson from some of the better teams.


Before the World Cup the sports press was full of articles about the big individual names and what effect they would have on the success of their teams, but while watching the tournament I have noticed that it is not necessarily the teams


with the biggest stars that put in the best performance, but the ones that play together as a team.


As many of you know, I have just moved position from heading up a distributor to my new position at a manufacturer, so I have a wide perspective on the industry as a whole.


During my career I have dealt extensively with all parts of the trade and it is clear that each part has to be doing well for the industry as a whole to thrive.


Without contractors selling and installing, distributors cannot prosper and without


the strong relationships of distributors with contractors manufacturers cannot succeed.


Each of these sectors, plus consultants and specifiers, has to be on top of their game for the industry to achieve its goal.


As the team progresses and evolves during the competition, it is the unsung heroes who provide the backroom support that enables the players to run onto the pitch to produce the results.


The role of the manufacturer is to support our star players which are our distributors so


they can score the ultimate goal of securing the business for us.


Team work is key and working together will help us all in achieving our goals not only on the pitch but also in the industry.
