34 Compressors RSL flies high with Bitzer

BITZER UK’S NEW distribution strategy for compressors, condensing units and electronics control products has been up and running for nearly a year now. One of the selected distributors is RSL (Refrigeration Spares Limited) which was appointed by Bitzer UK to provide end-users and HVAC contractors with the quality of service and support that they had become accustomed to when they were direct customers.

RSL in the UK has its head office in London and depots in Manchester, Coventry, Exeter and Glasgow. It is part of the RSL Group, a general refrigeration wholesaler which also includes Refrigeration Products in Belfast and RSL Ireland with depots in Dublin, Cork and Galway. As an independent group of companies, RSL is dedicated to supplying the commercial refrigeration markets of the UK and Ireland with products which are seen as offering the best quality and best value for money.

As a Group, RSL has been distributing Bitzer products since 1960. Today, the most popular Bitzer ranges that RSL in the UK sells are semi-hermetic compressors, mainly in the 10Hp to 50Hp range. In the last nine months or so RSL has seen increased demand from the market, especially for compressor solutions for the medium to large commercial refrigeration sector. The company sees this trend continuing and has increased its own engineering staff to cope with the anticipated increased business. From Bitzer UK’s standpoint, the appointment of RSL has certainly already improved the route to market with improved availability and customer access to Bitzer products. Stock is readily available from RSL and – importantly – the traditional high levels of technical support that customers of all sizes came to expect when dealing directly with Bitzer UK, are still in place. RSL customers from any sector – contractor, end-user or OEM – can also choose to route their technical questions through RSL or directly to Bitzer UK. To achieve this, RSL has already undergone in-depth training in all aspects of Bitzer compressor and condensing unit technology.

One of the key considerations for Bitzer UK in appointing RSL was to ensure that they ticked all the right boxes in terms of their ability to represent such a premium brand. Therefore, offering the highest levels of customer and technical service was essential and in keeping with the ethos of Bitzer as a global market leader in compressors.

company also offers a design service and can supply a complete package for most refrigeration and air conditioning applications. RSL does not sell products that compete with Bitzer, but complement them. According

to Paul Warren, technical director of RSL, there is one word that

sums up Bitzer UK – reliable. “Being reliable is the best way to keep customers,” he says.

“As part of this, technical support from Bitzer is very important in order to maintain our own high levels of service to customers. Bitzer has a large engineering team with great knowledge of their products and how they should be applied. Combine this with the open structure of the company and you have the basis for great technical support.”

“Bitzer gives us an expert in almost every field who assists us over the phone and or site,” says Mr Warren. “Bitzer product training has also been invaluable and the RSL team has learned a great deal.” For RSL, Bitzer’s strengths as an organisation include engineering excellence and its continuous strong investment in research and development to create energy efficient products that meet customers’ needs and operate with a

wide range of refrigerants and blends. “A good example is the new Bitzer Ecoline semi-hermetic compressor range,” says Mr Warren. “These products are highly efficient and optimised for use with frequency inverters with performance data available for the majority of refrigerants.” Looking at the year ahead, Mr Warren believes that the smaller condensing unit market is becoming more and more geared towards supplying plug and play solutions. When this is combined with a continued requirement for greater efficiency, he believes that the Bitzer Ecostar range of inverter driven condensing units is set to be much in demand. Therefore promoting the capabilities of this range is a major initiative for RSL during 2014. He looks forward to the future and concludes humorously, that as RSL and Bitzer have been working together for over 50 years, “Bitzer must be doing something right!”
