Camaraderie of building Congratulations for picking up the Baton
for FLYINGMODELS! I saw that neat photo of the Caudron and wondered about it. Is it yours? Any info as to source of kit or plans? It’s one of my favorites.
had a ball. The Caudron is 1:5 scale and at this point the design exists only as rough sketches. I do expect to wrap it up into a package suitable for sharing with others, at some point in the future. The Velox is new to me. I have long been a
fan of the CW Junior, having seen a 1⁄4 scale model, I believe, years ago in either RCM or RC Scale Modeler. I also saw a full scale fuselage stored in a hangar in California years ago and was shocked at how small the tubing was through the nose. Then again, if it doesn’t have to support the engine ... – THAYER

your April issue on page 20. It was Bob Han- ford’s No-Cal Witts-V racer (has a #21 on the side of the fuselage). I wanted to get some more info on this plane for a possible future micro RC project. This is the way I usually start. It only takes a single photo to catch my attention.

I am also attaching a few shots of some of
my scale models. I built the Curtiss-Wright Junior from Don Srull plans. Don is a genius not only in building wonderful models, but making his plans so clear to follow. I also built the Velox from plans and thanks to my wife, used a metal tube she found in a thrift store for the rear “fuselage”!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I am
a big fan of your work, and watched it for years in WWI Aero and Skyways. Yes, the Caudron is my own design and I
built it for the NEAT Fair last year. A hand- ful of us designed and built some Golden Age air racers and did demo flights with them on Saturday and Sunday that weekend and
Great to hear from you Bob. I agree, that is
a great looking model and as you say, some- times it only takes a glimpse to inspire a new model. Google has plenty on Steve Wittman’s full scale Witts-V racer and I expect one of our readers will know where to get the No- Cal plan for you.
