28 Air Conditioning Artistic licence with Artcool

LG’s ARTCOOL range of indoor split and multi-split units rings the changes over more conventional white wall mounts, combining aesthetics and energy efficiencies for the domestic and light commercial markets.

The Artcool Gallery wall-mounted unit resembles a framed picture and comes with a changeable photo for the front panel. LG also offers a selection of conventional standard white wall- mounted units and also the Artcool Mirror unit, with a mirror finish. The LG Artcool Gallery units are energy efficient and rated A/A, while the Artcool Mirror offers an A++ rating, and uses the latest DC inverter drives, inverter driven fan motors and sophisticated controls. The DC inverter is an energy-efficient feature that automatically adjusts the unit’s power to maintain room temperature rather than repeatedly starting and stopping the compressor. Artcool units also offer night silent

A smart move

LG HAS launched a central smart controller that promises reduced

running costs and lower C02 emissions. VRF systems such as LG’s Multi V IV, can bring much needed energy savings and reduced emissions to commercial buildings and now with the advent of the user friendly, tablet-based intuitive LG AC Smart Premium central controller, electricity consumption can be lowered further.

LG’s electronics expertise has been brought to bear to develop the impressive tablet-like AC Smart Premium controller – a device with a large keypad that appears on the touch screen when required making it easy to use.

LG’s AC Smart Premium can control up to 128 devices, including air conditioners, heat recovery ventilation systems and air handling units.

This new unit not only offers better system control but initial set up of the controller into a whole building system and subsequent changes can easily be undertaken by the installer and the facilities management team, with no need to call in an outside consultant.

Central control of ventilation, lighting, windows and shading devices, using integrated Building Management Systems or in the case of heating and cooling via a dedicated controller is becoming commonplace.

three-way blow configuration gives draught-free airflow and when placed over a bed or desk it is possible to block the airflow to the bottom louvre thereby avoiding drafts from the unit. LG’s JetCool feature can cool a room to 18°C in just 30 minutes while the dehumidification mode accurately senses the room’s temperature and controls humidity without overcooling.

The Artcool Gallery units offer a SEER of 5.3 and SCOP of 3.5 and are designed with infra-red control and pipe access through the back so there are no untidy ancillaries to spoil the look of the installation. Artcool units are available in 2.5kW and 3.5kW sizes. The Artcool Mirror units, offer a SEER of up to 6.2 and SCOP of up to 4.0. They are also available in 2.5kW, 3.5kW and 5kW models.

Hitachi achieves its new Utopia

HITACHI AIR Conditioning Europe SAS has launched its latest generation of Utopia IVX Premium and Standard models for 2014.

The line-up has been improved across both Premium and Standard ranges which are available from 2hp (single phase) up to 12hp (three phase). IVX Standard has a redesigned, compact cabinet (4hp, 5hp and 6hp models) to accommodate a heat exchanger with a greater surface area.

An updated fan motor and DC Inverter compressor with new shaft mechanism achieves better seasonal efficiency across the range and improved heating capacities even at low ambient temperatures (5hp and 6hp models).

The entire IVX product series has been optimised to maximise

seasonal efficiencies even at partial load, improving SEER and SCOP figures, and all Utopia Premium and Standard (2hp to 6hp) models are ErP Directive Tier 2 compliant.

The working range has also been improved with the outdoor ambient temperature extended down as low as -15°C in cooling mode; heating capacity is up by between 29% (6hp) and 36% (5hp) even at outdoor temperatures as low as -20°C. “When combined with our System Free indoor units, the SEER figures we’re achieving are some of the best in the market,” commented Ricard Ribas, European product manager at Hitachi Air Conditioning Europe. “And as our models don’t lose power even at low outdoor temperatures, we can offer a smaller footprint, lower capacity IVX Premium or Standard unit at a lower cost than our competitors – which means much better margins for our installers.”
