FACILITIES AND energy management company, GSH Group has been awarded a five year contract with The Yorkshire Building Society (YBS).
YBS is the UK’s second largest building society and this is the first time in its history that it has opted for a single supplier to manage their entire estate.
GSH will be responsible for the provision of technical services across the company’s entire UK property portfolio totalling in excess of 250 properties.

Mostra thrives despite transport failures
THE 39TH MOSTRA Convegno Expocomfort trade show registered record attendance figures, despite a critical week due to a public transport strike.
There were more than 2,000 exhibitors, 43% of whom were from abroad, and 156,000 trade visitors. International visitor numbers were up by 3% compared to the 2012 show. In particular, there has been an increase in the number of attendees coming from the Russian Federation, Turkey and Poland compared to the previous exhibition. Visitor numbers from Germany, France, Spain and Great Britain were in line with the previous exhibition, again showing an increase.
In addition, there has been a rise in participation from many strategic markets compared to the 2012 show, such as India, China, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Australia, Baltic States and the countries of former Yugoslavia. This is accompanied by a growing number of attendees coming from across the African continent.
There was a thumbs-up for the programme of over 200
conferences and workshops, which provided an opportunity for visitors to learn about topical issues and focused on the latest innovation, quality and environmental sustainability.
“We are proud of the
outstanding results achieved at MCE 2014,” said Massimiliano Pierini, business unit director of Reed Exhibitions Italia. “We will continue to be a strategic tool developing our exhibiting companies’ business in close collaboration with the main trade associations.” MCE Saudi is being launched from 4 to 6 May
2015 in Riyadh and MCE Asia will take place from 2 to 4 September 2015 in Singapore. Investments in Saudi Arabia are expected to reach ¤214bn in four years, of which 22% will be in residential buildings and 15% in non-residential buildings.
The master plan of the island city of Singapore predicts 80% of green buildings by 2030, with the purpose of making Singapore a leading global sustainable city. Investments in building are likely to rise by 5% each year in the next four years across the region according to Cresme.
Take the gamble out of humidification
WITH MORE companies now undertaking maintenance on humidifiers without appropriate training Carel UK Service has frequently been called upon to rectify poor installations and incorrect maintenance.
Although this leads to increased costs to the end- user and facility management companies what is more concerning to manufacturers such as Carel are the health risks associated with it. The importance of humidification maintenance is often overlooked compared to air conditioning systems or other environmental equipment – however do this at your peril as the use of water in any

system brings with it a whole host of legislation and more importantly risk to health if not considered properly. One of the main reasons encountered by Carel UK for overlooking humidification maintenance is a lack of understanding.
Although the main checks and consumable replacements seem straight forward what some engineers do not realise is that much of the humidifiers’ maintenance revolves around testing, disinfection, analysis, control parameters and vital spares replacements.
The key to controlling planned maintenance costs is correctly estimating
maintenance frequency by determining how many service visits, consumables and spares are required over an annual period.
As maintenance levels will vary from humidifier type and location, engineers unfamiliar with the system have in the past hugely underestimated the annual maintenance requirement.
This in turn has led to costing end users and facilities companies both in downtime and increased risk of contaminating of the system. Failure to carry out the correct checks and procedures in the past has led to complete product failures, increased servicing, costly rectification
work and the detection of harmful bacteria in the system. To address this issue and support facility managers Carel UK is embarking on a major expansion project of its service and maintenance division.
Customers can now benefit from optimised efficiency, regulation compliance, extended life system and cost savings directly from the manufacturer.
Carel UK will now also be offering a full range of planned maintenance packages as well as product training by its field service engineers on the various checks and procedures on the relevant humidifiers.
