Volvo EC27C proves to be Tony Draper’s little power house...
Devon has broken with tradition and purchased their very first Volvo EC27C compact excavator from Volvo’s utility dealer for the south west of England – Plant & Engineering Services Ltd.
Tony Draper Plant Hire Ltd
Purchasing a new Volvo machine has been a new departure for proprietor Tony Draper and a well-considered investment in his opinion. “We looked hard at what was available on the market and having spoken to other Volvo users about the product and the after sales support from Plant & Engineer- ing Services our local Volvo dealership.
“After first making contact with P.E.S. I was invited to try out a demonstra- tion model and put it through its paces to see it was what I was after. I have to say it's powerful hydraulics and lifting ability surprised me to say the least and after lifting a 45 gallon barrel full of concrete (that weighed 539 kgs) with a lifting eye at the top so it could be lifted safely with a chain and “d” shackle it handled it with no problems at all. I I knew it would be just right for the type of work that I carry out and we decided to opt for the Volvo EC27C,” he said. “I’m certainly impressed with the power and performance of the machine and it ticks every box for the work we undertake,” he con- tinued.
And the bulk of Tony Draper’s work comes from a long standing contract of Combe Martin, North
with Western Power Distribution (WPD) in the North Devon area. The machine is in constant use either boring holes for electricity supply poles or physically erecting poles into the ground. “The machine has just the right amount of lifting capacity to handle the poles, some as tall as 12 metres in height. – it’s extremely stable and has plenty of power and height/reach for my auger attachments,” says Tony.
In order to safely handle the power supply poles some of which measure 12 metres in length, Tony Draper has had optional hose rupture valves fitted to both the boom and dipper cylinders.
Tony Draper Plant Hire was incorporated back in 1994 and became a limited company in 2002. The family run business is based in Combe Martin, North Devon and works exclusively for WPD in the North Devon locality.
