The package includes eight canopy version Volvo EC15Cs (one and a half tonnes) and six larger Volvo EC27Cs with cabs, all of which have been supplied with a full set of buckets and e-touch immobiliser systems from Volvo CE’s utility equipment dealer in the Midlands — SM Plant Ltd. Commenting on Prestige Hire’s purchase, SM Plant’s Managing Director Simon Milligan said; “We are absolutely delighted that Prestige Hire Ltd has selected the Volvo product for their self-drive hire needs and John and his team can be assured that we will be there along with Volvo to continue to support them going forward.”

We have built the business up providing a sound and reliable service to our clients hiring quality brand products

Besides Prestige Hire’s tool and plant hire business, the company has, within the last three years invested significant time and resources in developing a separate division operating as ‘TOTAL TRAINING’. “For quite some time we had repeated requests from our customers to provide all manner of training for their operatives whether it was operator training on plant, theoretical training, manual handling — in fact anything related to the construction industry,” explains John Smith. And recognizing there was a niche in the market especially in the West Midlands environs the company set about obtaining the relevant accreditations to provide a comprehensive set of training skills to the local construction industry. To assist in this important development of the company Ian Peacock was appointed as associate director to head up the training division which can now offer CPCS training on virtually all items of mobile plant along with SQAs and City & Guilds accreditation to deliver NVQs. The company has recently been appointed as National training provider for a major national civil engineering company and is working with local government agencies in helping unemployed people with the ‘up-skills’ necessary to move into industry related apprenticeships.

And a part of the investment in Total Training, Prestige Hire has included the purchase of a Volvo EC140D fourteen tonne excavator. “This is the largest machine we’ve purchased so far but recognize that this size of machine is common place on the building or construction site so it made sense to opt for the fourteen tonner to help deliver the relevant operator training we provide and again the deal on the table from Volvo was very competitive,” says John Smith. The machine will be based at Total Training’s dedicated training facility located close to the NEC just off the busy M42 motorway.
