THE VOICE braved some challenging weather when we visited the hardy inhabitants of the Shetland Isles... in January! And true to a Shetland saying:
“Der little lea anunder a lang-backit sea” The rolling ocean provides no shelter in a storm
Joining us on our visit were Utility Regional Manager for Scotland and the north of England, Charlie Flaws and Angus Innes, Area Buiness Manager for the North of Scotland
Shetland contractor opts for Volvo
Stuart Malcolmson Plant Ltd based at Sumburgh on the Shetland Isles continues to opt for models from Volvo’s excavator and compact excavator range by adding new EC27Cs and an EC140D.
Charlie Flaws
“We’ve been operating Volvo compact excavators for several years now. They are economical to run, easy to work on and maintain and operator friendly,” says Proprietor Stuart Malcolmson. “But, more importantly, we continue to favour Volvo due to the after sales support we get from the team on the mainland – it’s second to none in our opinion,” And joining Mr Malcolmson’s fleet are a second EC27C Volvo compact excavator and a second fourteen tonne EC140D making five Volvos in total. The machines are deployed on a variety of house building and industrial building projects concentrated on
Shetland’s mainland. In addition to its contracting arm Stuart Malcolmson also hires out his equipment for self-drive rental and operates a small quarry extracting stone and materials for the company’s building projects.
Angus Innes
Having worked for large contractors Stuart Malcolmson started up his contracting business back in 1999 concentrating on agricultural contracting then moving into house and general building construction and groundworks.
