Music – Creating Connections

Studying music creates a magnitude of connections – brain connections, academic connections, community connections, friendship and teamwork connections… the list goes on and on. The study of music leads to the development and connection of skills to LIFE in and beyond school! In this issue, also dedicated to the Wisconsin State Music Conference, we focus on forging those important connections made through music education.

The New Era of Teacher Evaluation

Music teachers are known for successfully rising to challenges in order to best serve the educational needs of their students. While music teachers can be their own worst critics working to the highest of personal standards, they are also challenged in a new era of teacher evaluation. From student teachers to new cooperating teachers to the seasoned master teacher, there is much to explore, learn and share in the big picture of today’s educational landscape, which includes new systems of teacher evaluation. In this edition, we offer practical and insightful perspectives for navigating the known and unknowns all while keeping students at the forefront.

Wisconsin School Musician April 2015 Mobile Learning

With today’s technology putting devices,

applications and the new age of the Internet into the hands of those who crave instant access to information on the go, the concept of mobile learning is all around us. In this issue, we’ll dive into mobile technology and share some of its best (and worst) applications (and implications) with music education. We will attempt to stretch the boundaries of mobile learning and its place in and outside the music classroom.
