The Town of Surfside Beach Recreation
Department has a lot to be proud of with their Dixie Youth League baseball. In 2009, the team brought home the Sportsmanship Award, as well as being the 2009 World Series Champions. In 2010, the Surfside Beach Dixie Junior Boys accomplished the same feat by also winning the 2010 Sportsmanship Award and the Junior Boys World Series! For the first time ever in the 54-year history of Dixie Baseball that any team had achieved that victory two years in a row. The girls’ teams have also had their share of accolades. The Surfside Beach Dixie Belles finished runner-up in the South Carolina State Tournament in Conway in 1999. They lost by one run in the last inning and missed going to the World Series.
The Town of Surfside Beach has been a Dixie
League franchise for Dixie Youth Minor (ages 9-10) since 1971; Dixie Youth Major (ages 11- 12) since 1971; Dixie Boys (ages 13-14) since 1984; Dixie Ponytails Softball (ages 9-12) since 1986 and Dixie Belles Softball (ages 13-15) since 1986.
In July 2012, The Surfside Beach Youth Sports Association took over management of the Town of Surfside Beach athletic programs and has provided the youth of the Surfside community an environment in which to learn and develop athletic skills, as well as life skills to apply in the competitive arena, while maintaining an attitude of good sportsmanship and fun. Games are played on Huckabee Field. The Complex is host to both Youth and Adult Softball programs, Youth Baseball and Youth Football Games.
