number of new technologies to mobilise the point of sale (PoS), offer self-service checkout convenience and streamline cash handling procedures. But the systems and processes managing with


taking, counting, securing and transmitting of cash and electronic payments, both online and instore, span a far wider remit than those just at the store’s PoS. They also include online transaction processing and security, as well other revenue streams that can boost retail revenue, like gift cards and loyalty schemes. An emerging area of focus is that of trading


across borders. Take, for example, fast-growing fashion label Issa London, which recently decided to integrate new online payments technology to drastically improve the online buying experience for international customers. Payments supplier SecureTrading provides


a robust payment platform for Issa’s customers, ensuring that transactions are processed quickly and securely, with ‘Global Adaptor’ from international

e-commerce provider SwipeZoom built in. The new integration means that customers anywhere in the world are able to see and pay for the full – and exact – amount of duties and taxes that are applicable to their purchase, at the PoS. This transparent approach offers the assurance


that there will be no unexpected additional costs later on, while 3D Secure authorisation guarantees that customers buy in absolute security and confidence. At the checkout, address forms are responsive to the shopper’s location, providing familiarity and a personalised shopping experience. Richard Aldington, chief operating officer at Issa


London, commented that the company was “really impressed” with the technology SecureTrading and SwipeZoom offered. “The solution makes things incredibly simple and transparent for our customers – and us – while removing so much of the complexity that can come with trading internationally.” Payments processing and loyalty become


inextricably linked when a retailer also offers gift card services. High Street and online department store Debenhams has maintained an 11-year relationship with prepaid services provider, PrePay Solutions, which is opening the door to a number of new technology innovations.
