ASRock builds a Bitcoin mining machine

HARDWARE manufacturer ASRock has released a pair of motherboards designed to help budding Bitcoin miners find a fortune. The H81 Pro BTC and the

H61 Pro BTC are both named after the symbol for Bitcoin: BTC. The digital currency can be acquired by ‘mining’ for ‘blocks’ online using the processing power of computer systems. Bitcoin mining is

conducted by the Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) of graphics cards, and in order to contribute as much GPU power to the task as possible, the H81 and H61 both feature a total of six PCIe slots into which cards can be inserted. Five of the ports are PCIe 2.0x1 slots, with a faster PCIe 2.0x16 slot also included. To power higher-end cards for

faster mining, two extra four-pin power connectors are also included. While both products are designed for Bitcoin mining, they can also be incorporated into standard computer setups. The H81 has an LGA 1150

socket with support for 4th- gen Intel Core i-series processors, two USB 3.0 ports, six USB 2.0 ports, one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, two SATA II connections and two SATA III connections. The H61 instead has an LGA1155 socket with support for 3rd and 2nd-gen i-series processors, ten USB 2.0 ports, one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and four SATA II connections.
