Recruitment drive for distie Hume joins Network Group as Retail Director Kroll Ontrack appoints new head of Western Europe

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF…

THIS MONTH: DARREN PERKS, SALES MANAGER, ENTATECH

AFTER DOWNING the obligatory cup of morning coffee, I start my morning checking over the sales figures from the previous day – giving a pat on the back to those who have done well and taking the time to advise those who may need a hand.

From left to right: Clare Spindler, Tracy Barrow, Rebecca Baldwin, Ashlea Bing, Jerome Slater, Ian Aitken

EXERTIS MICRO-P The distributor has made several appointments across a host of departments. CLARE SPINDLER has been appointed business development manager. She has previously worked at Toshiba, Samsung and DTP, and will be responsible for the proposition for public sector resellers. Two further business

development managers have been recruited by Exertis Micro-P. TRACY

NETWORK GROUP Utopia Computers’ CRAIG HUME has been appointed as Retail Director at the IT buying group. Hume will be responsible

for Network Group’s retail strategy and will lead the business to consumer initiatives. He will also support member growth.

KROLL ONTRACK Data recovery provider Kroll Ontrack has appointed a new Head of Programmes and Operations for Western Europe. PAUL LE MESSURIER has been appointed to take on operational and performance responsibility for the

provision of data recovery services to the company’s customers. With over 17 years of IT management experience, Le Messurier joins the company from his role as Head of Business Development for the EMEA Region at Samsung SDS Europe.

BARROWand JEROME SLATER will work in the company’s Visual Solutions division. Barrow joins the

company from manufacturer Optoma, while Slater has been promoted from his position as AV sales manager at the firm. General manager for

Exertis Micro-P’s Visual Division IAN AITKEN has also taken on new responsibilities heading the Visual Sales Channel, becoming directly

responsible for AV BDMs and the Technical AV and Solutions team. The firm’s Print division

team has also been bolstered, with the appointment of ASHLEA BING and REBECCA BALDWIN. Bing will be the company’s new Lexmark Product Specialist, while Baldwin has taken on the role of Xeros Product Manager. Both will assist resellers with manufacturer-specific queries and help them to expand their range.

“I’m honoured to be joining the board of Network Group,” said Hume. “The Network Group has

a reputation within the industry that is second to none. As a member of the group for almost a year I have seen first-hand the support and drive that the group brings to its members.”

“I’m pleased to have joined Kroll Ontrack at such an exciting time in its development,” said Le Messurier. “The company has a

reputation for delivering high quality data recovery and data deletion services and the calibre of its people is second to none.”

I sit in the middle of our sales floor, meaning I’m easily accessible for all departments – not always a good thing as it often results in answering a thousand questions a day. Working closely with our five channel managers, I help to set the objectives and the team’s goals – devising the best routes to market with the most appropriate products – before liaising with our supervisors to discuss the tasks for the day. I may also work with our marketing department on any reseller promotions and product launches that are coming up. Come lunchtime I’m usually looking for an

opportunity for a cheeky nap. Failing that, I take the time to get to know our new starters and let them know about our fake Fancy Dress Fridays – which is always good for a giggle when someone falls for it.

Where required, I liaise with our director, Jon Atherton, to discuss new manufacturers and products coming on board. I work closely with vendors to help develop their relationships and fulfill training needs with our sales team, as well as assisting in pitching to prospective manufacturers. As the day draws to a close I’m juggling a number of

different tasks, from developing accounts, analysing and maintaining our database to keeping an eye on the number of resellers we trade with. I am also heavily involved in

our recruitment drive, interviewing some of the many characters from Telford and surrounding areas. I often leave the office at

around 6.30pm and take my first breath of the day – the industry is so fast moving that you’re always on the go. By around 9pm the ringing stops in my ears and the Windows phone is finally switched off.
