ata collected by research firm Kantar Worldpanel provided to MCV shows
how UK consumers enjoyed various forms of entertainment – in terms of units – in the 12-week period ending May 11th 2014. Physical books still command
the largest market share, with a huge 25.7 per cent of UK residents buying them. This isn’t that far ahead of digital music, which takes up 19.3 per cent. Physical games make up a mere 1.9 per cent of the market, a decline of 8.2 per cent year-on-year. Unsurprisingly, it is digital formats that are largely on the rise. Digital video grew 108.7 per cent year-on-year, dwarfing digital video games, which only rose 29.3 per cent. Physical games, by contrast, fell 8.2 per cent year-on-year. But the biggest decline of all is
physical video rental. This will be down to the closure of Blockbuster This data was compiled by
Kantar from its research panel of 15,000 consumers.
