DATA JUNE CHARTS MONTHLY CHARTS

This June was a huge month for both games retail as a whole and Ubisoft as it deposes EA as the No.1 publisher. Alex Calvin checks out the month’s charts

THIS MONTHS UPS AND DOWNS

EA IS PUSHED down a place in the publisher

rankings by Ubisoft

JUNE was a very quiet month for games with few new releases coming to stores in fear of being lost in the E3 noise. But as the June data also includes the

last week in May – including the launch of UBISOFT’s Watch Dogs – the numbers make for some pleasant reading. 2.1m units were shifted in last month; an

increase of 14 per cent year-on-year. But the growth in the amount of money made from software sales is even bigger.

£70m was made this year, 56 per cent

more than in June 2013. And this title helped Ubisoft increase its market share for the month. The fi rm topped both of the publisher charts, deposing long-time top dogs EA and more than doubling its share. Of all games sold in June, 32.8 per cent

of them were published by Ubisoft, and 44.1 per cent of revenue from software sales came from the fi rm’s games.
