Be bold with Red Viking

Red Viking Rail manages rail engineering projects across the UK with an ethos that the future is in innovative technology, but combined with old-style values and team work

R

ed Viking Rail was formed in November 2011 by its current director Kevin Baker who has a record of delivering many single projects and multiple projects at differing levels over the past 16 years within the rail industry. Now in its second year of trading, the company is forecasting its annual turnover to have increased by more than 900 per cent compared to its first year. Talking about his reasons for setting up a new company in a recession, Baker said: ‘After several meetings with some potential suppliers I believed the time was right to make the bold step forward and form Red Viking Rail. With the lack of innovative monitoring systems on offer and the many commercially aggressive contractors, I believe we are ideally suited to assist other organisations not just within the UK rail sector but in other sectors in the UK and even further afield.’ The name Red Viking came while Baker was attempting to think of a dynamic and different name for his company. ‘One day I looked at my

hometowns football shirt and saw the club emblem of a Viking, they play in red hence Red Viking. Now with the name being based around another one of my passions I believe this empowers me more to ensure the service given is personal and to a high standard.’

The company has several specialist areas:

Remote condition monitoring and security systems • low-cost and low-power spatial air quality monitoring systems

• low-cost and low-power early flood warning system

• bridge/structural impact monitoring/ warning system

• security systems Civil engineering and construction

Rail specific project assistance • booking worksites and isolations within possessions through PPS

• booking line blockages through the GZAC

• documentation production – e.g. construction phase plans, work package plans, task briefing sheets, safe system of works packs

• supply of PTS trained staff

Innovation From the outset, Red Viking brings its enthusiasm for seeking innovative and value-added solutions to the UK rail infrastructure to deliver exceptional benefits. It has recently been involved in regular attendance and active involvement at the series of events coordinated by the Enabling Innovation Team for remote condition monitoring. Red Viking Rail will strive to become one of the market leaders within the UK rail infrastructure through the introduction of new technological innovation ranging from the development of the latest techniques and practices to launching unique products. This ethos of innovation is further demonstrated in its supply chain selection process, which requires its subcontractors to demonstrate a track record in
