AN INTEGRATED joint venture between Barhale and engineering consultancy WSP, the Barhale WSP collaboration offers a feasibility, design, construct and commission service focused on Yorkshire Water’s wastewater infrastructure investment programme.
The alliance’s is now in year four of a five-year contract with Yorkshire Water, and an option to extend for a further five years has been triggered to accommodate AMP6. The team will continue upgrading Yorkshire Water’s sewer network in south and west Yorkshire to reduce flooding; and construct sewer diversions using both traditional open- cut and in-house tunneling techniques.
Barhale WSP estimates that the volume of work undertaken in AMP6 could be £50-60M. Rob Smith, business unit manager for the alliance, said

the framework extension reflects “the hard work and dedication of our people and supply chain partners over the last three years”.
He said: “The team now employs over a hundred people, the majority of which are from the local area. We can now build on this successful platform to further strengthen our business unit in the north of England, providing further employment
and investment opportunities to local communities, whilst supporting Yorkshire Water’s vision of taking responsibility for the water environment for good.”
Barhale has a 65% stake in the joint venture, and WSP has the remaining 35%.
This is one of several alliances that Barhale is involved with, the others including BTU, @ One Alliance and Optimise.
