@ONE ALLIANCE is currently outperforming Anglian Water’s Capital Delivery Index (CDI), which measures delivery of outputs − it expects to undertake around 200 schemes every year. Recent projects include: • Whitton Water Treatment Works (WTW) upgrade
• Uttons Drove Water Recycling Centre upgrade
• Pulloxhill WTW drought scheme
• Wilsthorpe WTW UV installation
The consortium has a busy capital programme to take it through to the close of AMP5, and Anglian Water’s AMP6 early-start programme will give the main works delivery vehicle an opportunity to demonstrate the increased outcomes-focus in solutions.
One desired outcome relates to “investing for tomorrow’, demonstrating Anglian’s commitment to a whole life cost and TOTEX model.
In AMP6, Anglian Water is combining its two main capital delivery routes – Special Projects and @One Alliance – into a single entity to deliver main works capital. This will build on the successes of both of these AMP5 delivery vehicles, creating a collaborative team focused on successful outcomes for Anglian Water, its customers and supply chain.
The main works alliance we are setting up is one of 4 delivery vehicles for AMP6 to deliver different types of capital work. We are looking to establish an ‘integrated supply chain’ to service these 4 teams. This should lead to more collaboration and integration in tier 2 and 3 organisations as they gear up to provide this broader, more joined-up service.
Going forward, @One Alliance said there are still plenty of large schemes in the business plan, and Anglian’s programme management initiative will mean small projects with common
BTU’s Southern Work

BTU, A commercial collaboration between Barhale Construction and Trant Construction, has several water companies as clients. It was originally set up to undertake water services to Southern Water.
BTU has two contracts with Southern Water, and each deal is now five years into a six-year term, with the option to extend to cover AMP6. They entail:
• A Multi Services Framework covering reactive, planned and capital maintenance schemes and capital works in water and wastewater, predominantly process
• M&E Non-Infrastructure projects and also Infrastructure (Sewerage) schemes
The contracts cover Hampshire and West Sussex.
Projects that BTU has been involved with for Southern Water
A supplement to WET News
include a capital works contract in West Sussex to create a water supply that should fulfill the needs of 100,000 households. This project has developed a fresh source of water from the River Arun at Hardham to complement existing flow from the River Rother, enabling Southern Water to pump up to 10Ml of water daily from the Arun.
BTU has also completed a
major £300,000 project involving the upgrading of an odour control plant at Southern Water’s East Worthing Wastewater Treatment Works in West Sussex.
The main task centred on the replacement of two large odour control wet chemical scrubbers, with the challenge of dismantling the obsolete scrubbers in situ as they were housed in a large portal frame building with restricted access.

deliverables will be bundled for efficiency. Anglian is also maintaining its AMP5 approach to product standardisation, so there are opportunities for the supply chain to support that as we work towards “design once – build many” as a model.
