Alliances 2014 | 29 Optimise looking forward to ‘best year yet’

OPTIMISE CARRIES out capital works, repair and maintenance and developer services for Thames Water. Last year (year three of five) the joint venture delivered more than £140M worth of work across the entire Thames Water region.


The workload included a programme to remove an agreed number of properties from the Sewer Flooding History database, reservoir tunnel relining, reservoir maintenance and emergency drawdown projects, new sewers and sewer repairs, surveying and jetting, new water mains, mains replacement and lead pipe replacement.


Optimise also continued the OPEX clean water repair and maintenance contract in the Thames Valley and south London, and the developer services contract in the Thames Valley and North London. Year four promises to be the best year yet as the alliance is

forecast to deliver more than £150M in CAPEX and OPEX, with a similar mix of projects. Year five will also be busy, contrary to the traditional AMP pattern, and Optimise is currently forecast to deliver a value of work to the tune of more than £120M.


Optimise says it “is proud” of its high health and safety standards, sharing best practice


between its partner companies and implementing it across all contracts. The joint venture has also focused on providing “an excellent service to Thames Water and its customers”. Both health and safety and the customer focus are possible due to the commitment to collaboration shown in all areas of Optimise over the past three and a half years.

The alliance provided a wastewater system in Dunoon


SCOTTISH WATER Solutions (SWS) is dedicated to Scottish Water, helping to deliver the utility’s capital investment programme. The current joint venture comprises Scottish Water, Veolia Water, Laing O’Rourke Infrastructure and Jacobs UK.


The focus of Socttish Water’s delivery plan between now and 2015 continues to be driving up performance in drinking water quality and protecting the natural environment, along


with service improvements such as reducing interruptions to supply.


The joint venture is central to delivering on these objectives. Geoff Aitkenhead concluded: “These joint venture companies have been chosen for their expertise and experience in each of their chosen fields. This is a partnership with an exciting blend of the right skills and brings best practice from the private sector to bear on the delivery of public water


and waste water treatment infrastructure.


Recent projects involving SWS include: • ●A £6.2M scheme at Perth wastewater treatment works to improve the quality of the Tay


• ●A £34M project to provide a new wastewater system in Dunoon


• ●A £10M scheme at Troqueer wastewater treatment works near Dumfries
