Alliances 2014 | 17 GBM starts on London’s new reservoir

Partners: Galliford Try, MWH Treatment and Mott MacDonald Customers: Thames Water Contract: Capital delivery of the process workstream programme Term: Yr4 of five-year framework

The interior of the Kidderpore reservoir in Hampstead, London, was exposed when it was drained ahead of re-covering works

GBM, THE joint venture between Galliford Try, MWH Treatment and Mott MacDonald, is one of several collaborations working on Thames Water’s AMP5 capital delivery programme.

A key project on site at present is the first new reservoir in London for over a

century, which is taking shape in a corner of a royal park in Primrose Hill. When complete the reservoir will be grassed over and landscaped to blend in with the surroundings. The site used to be occupied by a reservoir that was decommissioned in 2002 after ground movement had

damaged the roof. Following its demolition, construction of the new concrete structure began in September this year. Recent contract wins include a £10M THP plant at Crawley sewage works, and £8M scheme to install sludge power generators at the Beckton and Crossness works in London.

GCA extends Liverpool WwTW

Partners: Galliford Try, Costain and Atkins Customers: United Utilities Contract: AMP5 Term: Yr4 of 5yr framework

GCA, THE joint venture between Galliford Try, Costain and Atkins, was set up in 2005 to deliver the United Utilities (UU) AMP4 Southern Area Programme of Works. It is a £400M, five-year scheme to upgrade and develop the water and wastewater assets, with a further option to deliver the AMP5 programme. The option was taken up and GCA is half way through its £300M five-year AMP5 deal with United Utilities. Upgrading Liverpool WwTW is just one of the projects that the consortium is working on.

The facility cleans wastewater before it goes back into the River Mersey, and United Utilities has been investing in the plant to further improve it.

Work involves extending the current treatment works in Vauxhall into the adjacent dock along with major upgrade

An extension to Liverpool wastewater treatment works takes shape

works to the existing plant. As part of its AMP5 remit,

GCA is implementing United Utilities’ non-infrastructure capital delivery programme in its southern area.

The majority of projects are above ground improvements to both clean and wastewater

processing plants.

GCA covers the United Utilities’ South Region while KMI+ deals with the North Region.

This year GCA has retained its “number one position” within its construction peer group of suppliers to UU.
