How To Practice Prior to the Round Range Day

30 minutes: Get loose hitting pitches and

short irons. Hit half your shots working on mechanics, and half your shots at targets. Utilize half your practice time to hit 7-irons through wedges. Never hit more than five drivers in a row. –or–

Spend all 30 minutes doing putting drills: short putt, 10-footer and long putt.

–or–

30 minutes doing chips, pitches and bunker play.

15 minutes: Short on time? Just hit

bunker shots. This will loosen the hands, forearms and shoulders, and it will allow you to find the bottom of your swing arc. Save enough of the 15 minutes to roll some putts and make as many 3-footers as you can.

30 minutes: You have enough time to get loose by hitting pitches and short irons. Make sure you hit some short irons at targets. Practice your first tee shot. Save time to make as many 3-footers as possible.

45 minutes: Get loose by hitting

pitches and short irons. Once loose, hit mid- irons, hybrids, fairway woods and drivers. Always hit the majority of your shots at targets. Practice the first tee shot. Save five minutes to make 3-footers.

60 minutes: You have plenty of time.

Stick to your routine and get loose with pitches and short irons. Hit an assortment of clubs. Hit 50% of your warm-up shots at a target. Save 20 minutes to do short put- ting drills and 10-foot drills. Always make more putts than you miss.

45 minutes: Get loose hitting pitches and

short irons. Take 15 min- utes and work on mechan- ics, and then 15 minutes

to do random practicing. Finally, spend 15 minutes on putting drills or chipping and pitching.

60 minutes: Get loose hitting pitches

and short irons. Take your time. Ben Hogan advised that you take 30 seconds per practice shot. Incorporate short game and putting into the session. Break up the time: some putting, then some full shots. As always, half of your shots need to be aimed at your target. Never hit more than five drivers in a row. Make your practice sessions organized and with a routine. Never just hit balls! Always have a purpose.
