GOLF’S NEW FRONTIER

30 / NCGA.ORG / FALL 2013

BY BRADLEY S. KLEIN

THE NAMES ROLL OFF THE TONGUE as if lyrics in a country-western ballad about a train ride across the American heartland. Sand Hills, Wild Horse, Dismal River, Prairie Club and Awarii Dunes in Nebraska. Sutton Bay in South Da- kota. The Links of North Dakota at Red Mike Resort. Ballyneal in Colorado. Rock Creek Cattle Co. in Montana. Wine Valley in Washington. Lajitas in Texas. Black Mesa in New Mexico. Bandon Dunes in Oregon. And now, the latest addition to the lore of golf in the middle of nowhere: Streamsong in Florida. All defy market logic by turning the liability of their remoteness into an asset—that they are out- posts of the game, way stations along some mystical journey by which the margin becomes a cutting edge.
