TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION
Hellermanntyton’s X Series is a cable tie for all seasons
ew X-Series fastenings from global cable management specialist HellermannTyton are designed to provide peak performance while operating in extreme heat, sub-zero environments and inclement weather conditions, manufacturer.
N says the “Using inside serrated locking
technology and delivering high tensile strength, X- Series fastenings ensure consistent peak performance,” said Manufacturing Product Manager Richard Rands. The ergonomically designed X-Series cable ties have an innovative streamlined design and smaller rounded head compared with standard ties,
providing an improved fixing for tight applications and improved overall performance. They have been designed with a smaller and more streamlined profile to deliver a more lightweight solution without compromising on strength. Not only does the innovative design of the X-Series cable ties improve their physical performance, but they are manufactured in premium grade materials that have been developed to cope with even the harshest of environments and temperatures - something that other cable ties don’t offer.

he KNX UK Association's Installation of the Year award was given to Entech for the ITV (Orange Building) Offices in Salford Quays. EnTech were asked by client BAS to streamline the design and delivery process of the building control system to be installed at the offices. EnTech’s design team suggested a full KNX field bus solution to cover all aspects of the lighting, HVAC, metering and sub-system monitoring, enabling all services outside of the core plant areas to be picked up by the KNX bus. The solution dramatically reduced installation times and costs as there was no longer the need for multiple cabling for separate systems. The design also reduced sensor and control duplication – again cutting costs, reducing points of failure and improving the aesthetic by providing less cluttered ceilings and control points.

“grasper” to allow a surgeon to operate through a laparoscopic port. The pin is used to drive the jaw movement at the distal end of the device. However, during pin installation, there was a high insertion force, bending of the pins, damage to the sub-assembly and generation of metallic debris. Since this device was designed to go inside the human body, the possibility of introducing metal debris was completely unacceptable. Spirol provided the solution with its stainless steel, light duty coiled spring pin. The Spirol solution has permanently resolved all of the issues previously experienced and the manufacturer has also benefited from the cost reduction associated with switching from a CNC-machined pin to a roll-formed coiled pin.

Speed is of the essence for Hellermanntyton’s ground-breaking Q-Series
H
ellermannTyton’s new ‘Q-Series’ open-head cable tie range provides one of the world’s fastest products in
its field, says the global cable management specialist. “Independently approved testing - including blindfolding installers - showed more than a 25% time- saving when applying multiple Q-ties compared with standard products on the market,” said Manufacturing Product Manager Richard Rands. “The unique patented head design allows for a quick and simple fastening, particularly under difficult circumstances - for example
where gloves are worn or where access to the application is restricted.” Another significant user- related benefit of Q-ties is the pre-locking function that enables cables to be temporarily fastened before being permanently installed. This re-usability factor eliminates the time and cost associated with applying and removing temporary cable ties, therefore maximising the installers’ bottom line.

ialight launches emergency version SafeSite® Stainless Steel LED Linear Luminaire with integrated battery. The new LED emergency light operates from -20°C to +60°C and delivers 3-8 hours on battery backup, while most emergency lights operate only within 0°C to +40°C range. The 35W/70W fitting is designed to replicate the output of 2X18W/2x36W fluorescents for more
robust, long-life emergency lighting and delivers 270 lumens in battery backup mode which is maintained over the life of the battery. The luminaire’s LED design, customised driver circuitry and optimised power supply delivers years of stand-by life, while its built-in battery status indicator allows battery condition to be monitored and tested without touching the luminaire.
