What retailers are doing to keep us cool in the summer and warm in the winter whilst in store.


With one of the hottest summers we have seen in a long time, air conditioning within retail spaces has become a must. Consumers want to walk in to a store and find an inviting atmosphere and the wrong temperature can impact consumers perceptions of a store. Climate Center’s electrical range has seen a surge of sales this year with more and more retailers fitting a climate control system to battle against the summer temperatures. As one of the UKs leading suppliers of cooling equipment, they have seen a particular increase in air conditioning.


Over the summer months, June to August, Climate Center saw sales of electrical items up 100 per cent compared with the same period last year. The main increase was in sales of split air conditioners, VRF/VRV systems and condensate pumps. This increase in sales shows just how important it is to staff and consumers to have the temperature right within a public space. As the weather is now turning and winter is setting in retailers will now have to battle to keep the cold out of their stores and the warm air in. Many stores feel it is important to operate an open door policy to keep their entrances inviting but this in turn creates problems. With the doors open to invite consumers in, not only will the store feel cold and drafty but electricity costs will soar as the heating system works on overdrive to keep the temperature comfortable.


A solution to this problem is to install an air curtain over the entrances to regulate the
