In 1961, LIRR purchased 26 parlor cars from the parent Pennsylvania Railroad and repainted them into LIRR colors. Later, the road leased additional PRR parlor cars. They ran in PRR Tuscan Red and were mixed into consists with home road cars.

added the ice bunkers. I glued them slightly apart from the left cross bear- ers by spreading glue on the bunkers with a toothpick. A short section of the UC brake valve cylinder needed to be trimmed so the ice bunker would fit. With the two bunkers in place, I glued two battery boxes side by side

Underbody
The PRR and LIRR parlor cars used a double ice bunker on each side of the underbody. Both New England Rail Supply (NERS) and Branchline offer single and double ice bunkers, as well as other details needed for passenger car projects such as this. I glued the cov- ers onto the bunkers of two New Eng- land Rail Supply No. 251 double ice bunkers and put them aside to dry for one car. The Branchline bunkers were used on a second car; both manufactur- er’s parts are suitable.
I began the underbody by taking off the trucks and couplers by removing the three screws that hold the floor to the car. With the underbody free. I put

drops of Un-Cure on all the underbody details within the cross bearers except the brake cylinder. The PCAC switch- box, APWS tank, auxiliary holdover tank, battery charger receptacle, win- ter cover storage box, air conditioner, battery box and steam traps were re- moved and set aside since they would be reattached to the underbody later. (I saved the mechanical air conditioning unit for a future project.) After these underbody details were removed I filled the holes with putty. I waited un- til the putty was dry, then sanded the areas with fine sandpaper.
Placing the car on its side so that the PSACSC direct transmission is on the right and the generator is on the left, I
against the right cross bearer. Next, I installed the UC universal brake valve to the right of the ice bunker, a large air tank and the APWS water tank. I placed the large air tank that came with the car to the left of the cross bearer. The Walthers car did not have the necessary number of air tanks, so I purchased Cal-Scale’s AB-300 Westing- house Type UC Passenger Car Air- brake set. I used the largest tank in the set and located it to the right of the cross bearer. This is how the PRR and LIRR parlor cars appeared in photos. I added steam traps and installed
grab irons to the end sills by drilling holes with a No. 80 drill. (These are not visible on photos of the models.) Win-
