The focal point for industry debate

Michael Crimp IBC CEO

I

BC has long been pivotal to the electronic media community, but I believe that in recent years its stature has grown to be regarded as the

premier international forum for debate. Core to that experience is the IBC

conference, the essential context which fits each one of the thousands of innovations on the exhibition showfloor into the bigger picture. The IBC conference not only gives delegates the deepest and most accurate understanding of the state of electronic media, entertainment and news today, but provides surefooted and definitive guidance for its future.

IBC has to move with the industry, anticipate key trends and adapt the ways we help stakeholders meet, communicate and do business with each other. The conference is no exception. The editorially driven programme is structured around themes of utmost relevance. This year, these ranged from Broadcast to Multicast: Collision, Casualties and Challenges to Production – Innovation in Technique, and The New Language of Digital Spaces. The convention curtain raiser shone the spotlight on arguably the most creative and productive dream factory in the world – India. Further keynotes from Twitter, Amazon and Tesco reflected the changing nature of our industry as online players

become major competitors and partners to traditional broadcast. In a series of keynotes, panel discussions and benchmark technical papers we analysed the transformative impact of telcos and were able to judge for ourselves just how compelling an experience Ultra HD might be. Over 300 speakers hand-picked for their expertise shared their knowledge to stimulate debate in an environment which we hope encourages candid conversation, healthy argument and stimulating ideas.

This year we enjoyed a special

presentation on the entrepreneurial potential of Saudi Arabian youth from His Highness Prince Fahad al Saud, and heard what it takes to deliver international hit drama on a shoestring budget from the makers of Borgen and The Killing.

Augmenting both exhibition and

conference is the IBC Leaders’ Summit, a unique event for Europe’s most senior broadcast players to exchange insight with some of the most talismanic figures in world media.

Thank you to everyone who shared their time and inspiration as speaker or as delegate. Only by listening to you can we help set the industry’s agenda.
