TABLE 1. Hazardous Occupations for Youth Under 16 Years of Age as Determined by the U.S. Secretary of Labor This is a partial list containing only those tasks that occur on a ranch. More listings and detail can be obtained by reviewing the child labor regulations. (dol.gov/dol/topic/youthlabor/)


 Operating a tractor of over 20 PTO (power-take-off) horsepower, or connecting or disconnecting implements or parts to such a tractor


 Operating or helping to operate harvesting equipment, feed grinders, forage blowers, auger con- veyors (or the unloading mechanism of a non-gravity-type self-unloading wagon or trailer), power post-hole diggers, power post drivers or non-walking-type rotary tillers


 Operating or assisting to operate trenchers or earthmoving equipment, forklifts, or power-driven circular, band or chain saws


 Working in a yard, pen or stall occupied by a bull, boar stud horse maintained for breeding pur- poses, or a sow with suckling pigs or cow with newborn calf with umbilical cord present


 Working from a ladder or scaffold at a height of more than 20 feet  Working inside an upright silo within 2 weeks after silage has been added or when a top unload- ing device is in operation position, a manure pit or a horizontal silo while operating a tractor for packing purposes


 Handling or applying agricultural chemicals if they are classifi ed under the Federal Insecticide, Fun- gicide and Rodenticide Act as Toxicity Category I (identifi ed by the word “Danger” and/or “Poison” with skull and crossbones) or Toxicity Category II (identifi ed by the word “Warning” on the label)


 Handling or using a blasting agent including, but not limited to dynamite, black powder, sensitized ammonium nitrate, blasting caps and primer cord


 Transporting, transferring, moving or applying anhydrous ammonia
