Products Editor’s Choice New free standing SE 8 enclosure A cable connector that bites Unlike baying suites with frames and

removable side panels, the body of Rittal’s SE 8 consists of two side panels and a roof made from one piece of sheet steel.

Depending on size, SE 8 enclosures

The new SE 8 enclosure from Rittal is a standardised system which can be used in many areas of industry and in building services management. Typical fields of application are compact machinery and equipment, whose power distribution and automation components can be accom- modated in one single enclosure.

600W models added to Z+

600W models have been added to TDK- Lambda’s Z+ Series of programmable DC power supplies. This range addresses the need for bench-top power supplies for the R&D environment and is well suited for ATE and OEM 2U rack mounted or inte- grated applications such as test and mea- surement, semiconductor burn-in, com- ponent test, laser diode, heater supplies, RF amplifiers and electromagnets. Models in the range are available with output voltages up to 100V DC and output currents up to 60A. The units can operate in either constant current or constant volt- age modes and accept a universal (85- 265V AC) input. Higher power systems can be achieved by connecting up to six identical units in parallel with active current sharing. To increase the output voltage or to provide a bipolar output, up to two units may be connected in series. CE marked for EMC and in accordance with the LV Directive and RoHS Directive, the Z+600 con- forms to EN 55022-B, FCC part-15-B and VCCI- B for conducted and radiated EMI. Safety approvals include

UL/EN/IEC61010-1, and the Z+600 is designed to meet UL/EN 60950-1. TDK Lambda www.uk.tdk-lambda.com T: 01271 856 600 Enter 216

are available as one or two door mod- els. One particular advantage is that due to the absence of a centre bar, doors can overlap and the 1,800mm wide, two door system enclosures offer unimpeded access to complete mount- ing plates and switch panels. Due to the TS 8 sections on the side panels the user can now easily install the complete range of accessories familiar from the baying system in the SE 8. System accessories include vir- tually all the products needed in enclo- sure configuration. Accessories range from enclosure lights through to cli- mate control solutions. The new K9 Clamp connector from Hylec- APL has been designed to cut elec- trical installation times by up to 80%. The K9 uses insulation dis- placement technology (IDT) to eliminate the need for stripping, twisting and physically connecting wires.

The IP33 rated dustproof and waterproof cage construction means there’s no need to tape up newly created inline or spurred connections and no

risk of electric shock. With K9, unstripped cables are placed into each opening of the insu- lation displacement connector cage, which then snap shut to secure the wiring in place. Precision sharpened connector blades cut through the insulating sheath, cold welding the wires to the K9’s interior. This creates an airtight connection between the wires. K9 is available in two shapes and 11 models - ‘I Type’ for end to end connections; ‘T Type’ for spurred connections. The maximum voltage for every K9 product is 600V. The connectors are manufactured in RoHS compliant plastic and feature brass copper connector blades. Hylec-APL www.K9clamp.co.uk T: 01933 234 400

Schneider Electric has released Version 5.2 of its ProClima soft- ware. Available online, the soft- ware enables customers, in seven steps, to choose the ther- mal management solution that will keep electric installations running smoothly, avoiding the risk of overheating. With temperatures inside enclosures able to reach up to 50°C, an effective thermal man- agement solution is vital in ensuring consistent internal temperature and avoiding costly down-time. Just one hour of down-time can run into thou- sands of pounds and, in indus- tries like banking and microprocessing, even millions. Temperatures, both high and

low, directly affect the reliabil- ity and service life of electric and electronic equip- ment. When such equipment overheats inside a poorly ven- tilated enclosure, there is an increased possibility of system failure or breakdown. High operating temperatures take their toll on equip- ment and even if systems don’t fail, their service life can often be drastically shortened. For example, if the operating tem- perature of a variable speed drive rises by 15°C, its lifetime

will be three times shorter. In addition, extreme weather can also impact on the tempera- ture in enclosures, so must also be factored into their thermal management. Such weather pat- terns can seriously impair the reliability and effectiveness of equipment - particularly tem- perature sensitive components like batteries.

The ProClima solution is a robust thermal management solu- tion. It is cost effective, meaning minimal down-time, reduced maintenance costs, plus a longer service life for the control panel, providing the end user with total peace of mind. Integrating the Modbus/TCP protocol within FAAST complements the existing LAN/WAN TCP/IP connectivity. FAAST Modbus connectivity is provided via the device’s onboard Ethernet connection, which simultaneously provides direct internet connectivity and e-mail function- ality. As with all of these features, Modbus connectivity comes as standard, avoiding the need for additional inter- faces and Modbus protocol translators. Gintare Budriunaite, FAAST product marketing manager, said, “FAAST’s built- in Modbus protocol will enable seamless integration with building management systems without any additional hardware or software. Our customers using this additional communications capability will benefit from more flexible and streamlined system management and will reduce their overall cost as they can access detailed diagnostics and interact with the devices remotely.” System Sensor Europe www.systemsensoreurope.com T: 01527 406 700
