Products Cabling & Cable Management
Full IP65 cable entry system Increased options with new connector hood
M Buttkereit has extended its range of icotek cable management products to incorporate its latest KEL-ER range. This covers a split cable entry system, cur- rently suitable for cables from 2-14mm diameter but also including pre-termi- nated products. This provides cable strain relief according to DIN EN 50262 and ensures IP65 sealing. These icotek products can now also show savings for cable entry requirements in extreme conditions, where IP65 protection forms an essential part of the installa- tion specification. The KEL-ER system features top- opening black polyamide frames, used in conjunction with grey elastomer inserts and appropriate gasketing which are all sealed tight when the frame lid is fitted and the assembly is screwed into position. The frames match exactly the dimensions for 10-, 16- or 24-pole standard connection cut-outs, together with KEL-SNAP frames, base and flange plates as well as module plates for Rittal cabinets. EMC shielding can also be incorporated as a KEL-EMC-Z
assembly with strain relief, including a KDR-ESR base plate assembly for slide fitments into cabinets. For the cable installation process, once the split insert grommets have had cables incorporated (either pre- or non-terminat- ed) they can then be slid into the frames where they are held securely. Individual inserts can carry one, two or four individ- ual cables, providing high cable packing densities. An adhesive gasket together with an integrated sealing lip is used to achieve an IP65 seal between the frame and the mounting surface. Two inserts are mounted directly above each other within the frame. Currently two support frames are avail- able to accommodate either 4 or 10 type KT insert grommets. A range of inserts are available, pre-formed with single or multiple cable apertures to accommo- date the initial installation requirements while also simplifying later cabling requirements. The incorporation of addi- tional cables with upgrading, mainte- nance or re-routing of existing systems can thus be easily achieved.
Both the polyamide frames and elas- tomer inserts are halogen- and sili- cone-free with UL-94 Vo, self extin- guishing flame class. The polyamide working temperature range is -40°C to 140°C (static), with the inserts being -30°C to 90°C (static). M Buttkereit

HARTING has introduced its new Han B industrial connector range which features a new hood whose geometry allows a wide range of cable sizes with flexible handling. The shape of the housing makes it possible to implement a cable gland up to M50 in size 16B, which exceeds the maximum previously available. This allows the cable outlet to be on the side or at the top. The new housing is locked with Han-Easy Lock levers, which fea- ture easy handling and a low actu- ating force.
A version with an M40 cable
entry is also available. The design of the product allows a large wiring space, which in turn ensures simplified, faster and consequently more economical installation for the customer. When the new hood is used with a Han B bottom housing, IP65 protection is achieved. HARTING

Thinking big with Colossus launch The newly launched Colossus
products from Ellis are a range of heavy duty trefoil cleats, manufac- tured from 316L stainless steel and LSF polymer. The new range has been short circuit tested to a level of 104kA peak, and are aimed principally at the transmission and distribution, and utility markets. The new range comprises 14 sizes of clamp, which are suit- able for cables ranging from 25mm diameter through to 168mm. While for all cables above 69mm, the option of a saddle version of Colossus is available - a development that delivers the flexibility for an extra 100mm of support to both sides of the clamp.
One of the major benefits of the new range is that the base of all Colossus products can be
secured directly to the structure prior to cable installation. The cables can then be laid directly onto it and the over strap installed separately. Richard Shaw, managing direc- tor of Ellis, said, “Our research and devel- opment team con- tinually monitor the market for feedback and their research showed a sig- nificant demand for a heavy duty trefoil solution, but no product
readily available. “We developed Colossus in direct response and, having unveiled it for the first time at CIRED in Stockholm in early June, we have been delighted with the enthusiasm with which its introduction was greeted.” Ellis

architects’ practices and engineering companies to use and allows design engineers to improve the entire process of designing, purchasing and installing cable and pipe transits. The software has been developed using feedback from electrical, instrumentation and mechanical engineers to help make their job easier. Roxtec UK managing director Graham
O’Hare commented, “We have spent a number of years developing this software with the aid of engineers with a main pur- pose of making their job easier and more efficient. For a typical engineering, procure- ment and construction company, designer time is at a premium. Saving them time is saving them - or their client - money. “The Roxtec Transit Designer is designed to be as user friendly as possible. We know that cable routing can be complex and sub- ject to constant change, but with this advance in technology we can make it much more straight forward and offer a safe, certified solution. Engineers just enter their cable schedule, sealing requirements, installation preferences and preliminary opening sizes into the software, and it gen- erates manufacturer approved drawings and helpful documents such as material lists and installation instructions.” O’Hare said safety remains the primary

objective at Roxtec and that the software would help designers provide maximum pro- tection for their people, buildings and assets. “This system makes the installation of
our products safer because designers are able to accurately map out where cables are going to pass through the transit. This gives them a clear and precise picture of how the whole system will fit together and which cables are closest to each other. When the design is finalised, the plans can be issued electronically, turned into 3D models or CAD drawings and installa- tion instructions can also be generated.” To access the free of charge software users need to register online at
www.roxtec.com. There designers can begin mapping out their cable transit arrangement. Plans are generated instantly. The software also provides access to a 24/7 online helpdesk function where a Roxtec transit design expert will be on-hand to offer help and advice in a number of languages. Roxtec
