WONGS JEWELLERS HOST A ‘RIGHT ROYAL
BABY SHOWER’ FOR WILLS AND KATE As the country holds its breath for the eagerly anticipated arrival of the third in line to throne, Wongs Jewellers in Whitechapel decided to celebrate the impending pitter patter of Royal feet with a charity Baby Shower. Guests were invited to a Champagne Afternoon Tea and enjoyed beauty treatments from Bobbi Brown, Sisley, Benefit and ESPA courtesy of Harvey Nicholls Beauty Bazaar. Te Ladies were asked to bring along an item of baby clothing to the value of £10 and all donations were given to Forum Housing Association, who provide supported accommodation for vulnerable young adults. Peter Wong of Wongs Jewellers said: “We wanted to embrace the nation’s anticipation for the arrival of the next Royal generation and as we thought Baby Wales would get enough gifts we wanted to ensure that those less fortunate would benefit. Te ladies certainly seem to have had a great afternoon.” Lesley Rogers, from Wirral based Forum Housing Association said: “We are thrilled that Wongs Jewellers has combined a fun afternoon with the ladies, with raising awareness for our Association and more importantly with providing much needed baby clothing for people who need it most. We cannot thank Wongs and their guests enough for the kindness and support.”
Business leaders dash to Liverpool’s Accelerate
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales was among the line-up of distinguished speakers to attend Accelerate 2013 at Liverpool’s Arena and Convention Centre in June. Te event brought together 250 of the UK’s fastest growing companies and also attracted speakers such as Martha Lane Fox, Co-founder of
lastminute.com, Lord Young, the
Prime Minister’s Enterprise Adviser, Lord Bilimoria, Chairman of Cobra Beer and former All Blacks Captain Sean Fitzpatrick. Jimmy Wales said: “We built Wikipedia on the principles of collaboration and the free exchange of
knowledge and Accelerate 2013 embodies the best of this.” Accelerate will return to Liverpool next year as part of the International Festival for Business 2014, a 61-day expo of events taking place in the region in June and July 2014. Max Steinberg, Chief Executive of Liverpool Vision, said: “Liverpool has become an internationally recognised hub for trade and industry and we are proud to be hosting the UK’s first flagship festival for fast growth businesses.”
Marina Dalglish Appeal Andy Aldrich, Managing Director of Viva Brazil, said: “We recognise all of the excellent work which the Marina Dalglish charity has done and continues to do so we wanted to support this.” Lauren Dalglish, from the Marina Dalglish Appeal, added: “We are delighted to receive the support of Viva Brazil and feel honoured the restaurant has chosen to support us.” Te appeal is currently trying to raise £2m towards an MRI scanner at the Walton Centre Liverpool. Te most recent donation was £500,000 to Southport and Formby District General Hospital. Tis money was used to refurbish the hospital’s chemotherapy centre which opened in December last year. Viva Brazil has previously raised over £12,000 for Zoe’s Place and Claire House Hospice in Clatterbridge, Wirral. Amongst others the event was attended by Dianne and Gary Gillespie.
