Show in May this year and it is evident from the multi million vessels bobbing on the waterfront that this area is a magnet for the rich and famous. As we watched guests sipping champagne around the stylish pool area it was evident that the Kempinski Palace was an equally chic and elegant place to be. We were housed in a double room with a balcony overlooking the marina. Tis was a location where Sophia Loren made a number of her films and the screen siren often stayed at the grand old palace. She is held in such high esteem here that they named their fine dining restaurant ‘Sophia’ in her honour. Te traditional old palace building has been extended and joined to the modern addition by a stunning glass atrium. Room choices are available in both areas of the hotel, with guests situated in the modern area enjoying views out to sea. It is a rare occurrence to be able to choose from the romance of an old palace or the contemporary comfort of modern day luxury. Breakfast is served in the breathtaking Crystal
Hall, where Austro-Hungarian aristocracy once waltzed the night away. I can’t ever recall enjoying breakfast in such a palatial setting as this room, which rightly comes into its own when used for special occasions and gala dinners. Te breakfast was also plentiful, and served from a seemingly never-ending buffet, which caters for all tastes. Among the other numerous dining options is the Fleur de Sel Restaurant, which is perfect for lunch overlooking the pool. If you fancy sampling the local offer, the front of the palace
leads out to local restaurants and bistros, providing a wide range of options. As we sipped our pre-dinner aperitif on our balcony one evening we watched the array of stylish visitors walking the promenade and felt like we were truly experiencing La Dolce Vita.
