NORTHEAST HS LAX WRAP

By Tom Peace >> PLAYER OF THE YEAR Jordan Evans JAMESVILLE-DEWITT (N.Y.)

Many players from the Northeast Region had player-of- the-year type seasons, especially in New York. Shoreham- Wading River’s Tim Rotanz led Long Island with 140 points. Chaminade’s Ryan Lukacovic led the Flyers to a rare season sweep of their archrival, St. Anthony’s. Cazenovia Central’s Connor Cannizzaro, whose sister Kara was a Tewaaraton fi nalist for NCAA champion North Carolina, showed that big- play ability runs in the family. But no one in New York or the Northeast put up bigger numbers than Jordan Evans. The senior attackman amassed LeBron James-like stats for Jamesville-Dewitt during a 20- win season that fell just short of a Class B state title. Evans, a two-time US Lacrosse All-American, capped an impressive high school lacrosse career with 396 points on 205 goals and 191 assists. He had nine games this season in which he tallied at least 10 points. He should see the fi eld right away at Syracuse, where he will be a freshman this fall. Evans, who also won a 2013 Bob Scott Award, ranked No. 1 in New York in assists (100), assists per game (4.5), points per game (8.2) and points (180). “My best attribute is my fi eld sense and awareness,” Evans said in an email. “Being athletically gifted isn’t enough at the college level, because everyone is just as strong and fast. But the players that can pick apart the defense or the slides are the strongest on the fi eld.”

Though the Red Rams lost to Garden City in the fi nal,

they fi nished No.9 in the Nike/US Lacrosse National Top 25. Evans graduated from Jamesville-DeWitt as the program’s all-time points leader with 401. He won state championships in 2010 and 2011.

“It was great to end up with so many points this year, but ultimately the season didn’t end up the way I would have liked. All of those points and records that I set still did not get me and my team another state championship,” Evans said. “I hope that some player at JD someday in the future will catch up to the points records.”
