Sports Science and Safety The US Lacrosse Board of Directors

recently approved a written Standard for Athlete Safety and Protection that offi cially defi nes the national governing body’s position on safeguarding the well-being of underage athletes. The 14-page document outlines both prohibited and prescribed conducts and behaviors for adult members who interact with youth athletes. By outlining standards and guidelines, US Lacrosse hopes to remove all ambiguity in defi ning acceptable and non- acceptable behavior patterns. “Our commitment to the welfare of the

athlete is paramount,” said Steve Stenersen, president and CEO of US Lacrosse. “There will be no tolerance for physical or sexual abuse of children in the sport of lacrosse.” Interested in reviewing the full standard? Visit uslacrosse.org/safety.

support to the US Lacrosse Foundation, the philanthropic arm of US Lacrosse, will provide approximately 100 First Stick Grants in 2013 and the continued support of existing teams in their second year in the First Stick Program. “Thanks to you, we lax it up every day with the new equipment from your generous grant,” wrote Brad

Leach, coach of Millard North Lacrosse in Omaha, Neb., in a letter to donors who support the First Stick Program. “Our team is forever grateful!” The program also provides their coaches with enrollment in the US Lacrosse Coaching Education
