Football and men’s basketball were the primary forces behind the conference realignment that rocked Division I athletics, but it’s making men’s lacrosse look incredibly different, too.
Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietramala was uncharacteristically understated at a June press conference announcing that the Big Ten would sponsor men’s and women’s lacrosse championships: “The game of lacrosse is changing.” That’s putting it mildly. The Blue Jays became the Big Ten’s fi rst affi liate member in any sport, making the brand-new league second only to the ACC in all-time NCAA appearances.
