2nd Ground Damage Stakeholders’ Meeting
Working Together to Reduce Aircraft Ground Damage Venue: Tryp Apolo Hotel, Barcelona September 16-17 2013
US$4bn
This is the best estimate of what ground damage is costing the aviation sector on an annual basis. It’s a frightening figure – but is anything being done to reduce it? One way forward, perhaps the only way, is to encourage open dialogue between the industry’s principal stakeholders.
With that aim in mind, Ground Handling International organised the first meeting, in Toulouse last year, at the Airbus facility. Papers and discussion comprised the formula and those attending the event expressed their approval of the nature and aim of the meeting. The clear message arising from the two day meeting was that each stakeholder perceives the problem in a different manner. The challenge the sector faces, then, is that of trying to combine these groups’ individual goals. Simply put, what is required is a joint industry approach in order to reduce the frequency of aircraft ground damage. At the same time there is a great need to improve ramp safety levels around the world.
