aircraft and can operate from very low sill heights of just 1 metre.

A specialist approach Within the pages of Italy-based Aviogei’s catalogue at least three units can be found for anyone interested in the subject of the ambulift: the choice appertains to the fact that they have different operational ranges and capacities that in turn allow them to operate with a wide range of aircraft. Aviogei has come up with a patented

system that permits easy boarding

of PRMs on Dash or ATR aircraft: the solution is applicable to every aircraft, in fact, that is fitted with its own foldable or retractable stairs. Thanks to the engineering, a one man operation is feasible which contributes cost savings to the operation; in fact, only one operator is necessary for passenger loading and unloading and to operate the vehicle. Usefully, the lift can be lowered to the ground for optimal access and a special tilting system allows a simplified approach to the sill door. All Aviogei’s vehicles are provided with a front platform that is capable of moving longitudinally and transversely in order to make the approach to the aircraft sill door easier. Each unit has been designed to maximise the comfort and safety of the PRM whilst reducing the environmental impact to a minimum in terms of emissions.

Another specialist is that of AAT Alber Antriebstechnik. The company’s powered stairclimber S-Max Aviation can transport the PRM safely and comfortably via the gangway or integrated stairs to their assigned seat. It is not necessary to move the passenger into a special carrier chair, since the S-Max’s narrow

seat width of 38 centimetres renders it possible to transport him or her through the aisle. The device’s climbing capacity, which sees it master steps of more than 25 centimetres in height, makes for effortless transportation on stairs of all current aircraft types. Because of its easy integration with pre-existing processes, the S-Max Aviation also reduces the likelihood of lifting strain on the part of airport personnel and helps staff to keep to schedule. More than 100 airports already use the S-Max Aviation as an integral part of their standard service.
