JUNE 2013 GROUND HANDLING INTERNATIONAL
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EXPO 2014 29

“JBT AeroTech found that the quality of equipment and products displayed at the show was superb and diverse, while the attendance of both exhibitors and attendees much improved over the previous show.” Jim Cherrett, JBT
Las Vegas shows the way
Preparations are well underway for the next GSE event in Las Vegas. Make a note in your diary now: 14-16 October 2014, The Rio, Las Vegas
or those readers who attended the 2012 International Airport Expo, this bi-annual event is the one that is attracting more and more attention with every passing edition. Boasting some 270,000 square feet of exhibition space and housing around 100 exhibitors, the 2012 event was effectively some 20% bigger in size than the 2010 exhibition. Of greater interest, arguably, was the fact that around 25% of the attendees were from overseas, proof positive that here is a showcase that you’d be foolish to miss. Last September’s International Airport Expo not only saw more exhibitors and more attendees, it also focussed on issues that are growing in importance to the handler, such as ramp safety, operational cost-efficiency and environmentally-friendly GSE. This latter category, in particular,
has grown exponentially within the last decade. Thanks to a special area dedicated to the alternative-powered vehicle, visitors to the show were able to enjoy a hands-on experience and find out exactly how an electric tractor handles, as well as being able to see at first-hand the benefits of investing in such technology. Alternative power was also being actively promoted by some of the booths, where those attending could find out
more about charging systems and allied products. As readers know, green policies are becoming the norm at airports across the globe and it’s a short-sighted handler who is not alert to the ramifications of this important industry trend. For 2014, the organisers have enlarged the show’s footprint to 300,000 square feet and are confidently looking towards over 2,500 visitors during the three day event.
What they said about the 2012 event
“Once again the International Airport Expo Las Vegas was a great success! This was directly due to having adopted the best management practices of the 2010 IAEMA exhibition format along with the experience of the Ground Handling
“It was much better than the previous show because there were more visitors. We had really good discussions with existing and new customers, who were not only coming from the US. It was a good exhibition for improving customer relationships.” Klaus Pfeiffer, Trepel
“The organisation of this show allows
Tug to showcase our products in a very productive and hands-on approach, reaching all of our current and potential customers.”
Brad Compton, Tug Technologies “It was well visited, compared to 2010, especially from customers in Latin and North America. The show can be considered as a success.” Andreas Funk, Contrac Cobus “We thought it was a good show, well organised, and we had a useful presence.” Rob Turner, PRM Marine “Although I always enjoy getting together with my friends and colleagues at industry events, it is important for the GSE industry to finally join together and create one biennial event in the US.” Mike Bloomfield, Sage Parts
Looking forward to 2014
What will the 2014 event have in store? At this point in time it is too early to give specifics but attendees can look forward to a busy venue in the popular Nevada resort city. There will be, as before, a wide spread of exhibitor products, with everything from transmissions, tyres and battery units through to trailers, tractors and de-icers. You can thus count on seeing the gamut of GSE; aside from that will be the volume of specialist help available to answer your questions. Running along side the 2014 edition will be workshop sessions that are designed to update and inform: as before, a range of topics is envisaged. Similarly, there will be an area made available for alternatively-powered GSE.
So note the date – and watch this space.
