Festival fever is set to hit the USA, from rock to food to jazz to UFOs. The growing appeal of combining holidays with festivals looks set to be one of the top trends of 2013. In fact, festival tourism is evolving at an unstoppable rate and it shows no sign of abating. Festival fever spreads far and wide


in the USA: from rock music to jazz, fine food and wine, Civil War re-enactments to Native American tribal traditions, the world of rodeo, or even UFOs – and everything in between. Not only can a festival play an integral part of a US holiday it can also be a key motivator in booking a specific destination. Short breaks, particularly to music


festivals, are especially popular among the younger traveller. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, just outside of Palm Springs in California, now runs over two weekends in April to cope with demand. “It is our most popular time of year,”


comments Mary Jo Ginther of the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. “Tourists flock here to soak up the sun and festival atmosphere, with many of the hotels offering transfers to Coachella together with all-day pool parties.” Winter can be an appealing time for


festival-goers, with bigger savings on travel during the off-season. The family-friendly Fur Rendezvous Festival in Anchorage is a 10-day celebration of Alaskan life. Every February, the streets come alive with reindeer and dog sled races, native arts markets, ice sculptures and events for everyone to enjoy. Seasons aside, many savvy tourism companies are jumping on the festival bandwagon and using events to drive sales. With a diverse choice of events across every state, clients can experience American culture at its best, all year round.
