THE theme of this year’s Indaba was 'Culture Tourism’, which was highlighted in a dedicated Heritage and Culture Pavilion initiated by the National Department of Tourism and South African Tourism. The pavilion featured
tourism
experiences and attractions linked to art, music and fashion as well as the country’s eight UNESCO World Heritage sites. Commented South African Tourism Chief
Executive Officer, Thulani Nzima: “While wildlife, adventure and scenic beauty remain the major reasons for visiting
South Africa, our research shows that visitors are looking to meet the locals, experience where they live,
eat where
they eat and be part of the country’s culturally-rich lifestyle, while learning about the history of this great country”. A collection of itineraries and tour options are featured in the Moja Heritage Collection brochure including township tours and inner-city walking tours in Johannesburg and Soweto as well as The Cradle of Humankind site.
