It’s going to be a splendid summer here in Belgravia, with plenty of unmissable dates for your diary. When Margaret Thatcher passed away in April, hundreds of bouquets were left on her Chester Square doorstep. We pay tribute to the Iron Lady by speaking to local people who met her, in a special

feature on page eight. Also inside, read our

interview with world- famous chef Gordon Ramsay, who owns

Pétrus on Kinnerton

Street, and find out how Belgravians are being urged to fight the closure of our local fire stations. We speak to Belgravia resident and motoring enthusiast Norman Goodman about his love of vintage vehicles, and get the low-down on a new ice cream shop that is set to open on Elizabeth Street.

Read how afternoon tea at The Goring hotel has been named the best in London, and get the inside story on Grace Belgravia, a new private members’ club on West Halkin Street that is open to women only.

A summer of

music, dancing and performing dogs

Forget Ascot and Glyndebourne. Here in Belgravia, the summer street parties are the most important dates of the season – and, as ever, they promise to be plenty of fun.

The Elizabeth Street summer party takes place on June 12 and is raising money for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. The evening begins with a children’s party from 5-6pm in St Michael’s church in Chester Square, with specialist entertainers Sharky and George. The main event opens on Elizabeth Street at 6pm, when there will be a dog show and agility course featuring some four-legged friends from Battersea. Delicious food and drink will be available throughout the evening, shops will open late, and there will be a fabulous raffle, with prizes including a trip to New York. Make sure you come ready to dance, because the

hugely popular band What Next?, who are regular performers at the party, will be playing a variety of classic covers until the event finishes at 11pm. Next is the Motcomb Street summer party, which takes place on June 26 from 5.30-10.30pm. A celebrity will snip the ribbon (last year the event was opened by Phillip Schofield), and there will be an auction, a tree of life and music from rock band Silverbox. As night falls, tribute acts for the Bee Gees and

George Michael will take to the stage and there will be a disco in the street. Stalls supplying food and drink will keep revellers refreshed, and there will be performances from street entertainers. This year’s bash is in aid of the Household Cavalry

Foundation, Chelsea Community Hospital School and Intermission Youth Theatre, which engages young people from London’s inner-city areas who are at risk of offending or who lack opportunities. See you all there!
