THE
OWNER-OPERATOR DOES ALL HIS WORK WITH BOBCAT E55 COMPACT EXCAVATOR AND ATTACHMENTS
Excavator owner-operator Ted Spillman (pictured below) faces jobsite obstacles every day, but he says the biggest challenge is fi nding something that his Bobcat® purchased from Hugg & Hull Equipment, cannot do.
E55,
“This is the only machine I have,” says the owner of Spillman Excavating, Paragould, Ark. “My business is based on completing entire jobs with the excavator. The legendary reliability of Bobcat equipment is important, and so is the unmatched versatility of the E55. You can do a lot with it.”
In order to expand the capabilities of his excavator, Spillman uses these Bobcat attachments:
HARDSCAPING
When recreating an outdoor environment, building an elaborate hardscape or constructing retaining walls, compact excavators with rotating grapples provide the grasp and precision. Their wrist-like fl exibility allows operators to dig square holes, load/unload and sort material, move vegetation and pavers, and place landscape boulders. Three-tine grapples paired with a clamp are perfect solutions for handling timbers or other dimensional lumber.
RIPPING
Prepping a site for paving or planting could be done with your excavator fi tted with a ripper to penetrate and scarify frost or hard ground.
TRENCHING
Adding a trencher attachment to an excavator creates a productive dual-capacity machine for utility or irrigation system installation. Create a trench up to 2 feet deep and 4 to 8 inches wide with a Bobcat excavator and MX112 trencher.
Attachment changes made easy
By making attachment changes easy, operators are more likely to use the proper-sized attachment for the job. Operators can quickly change attachments with the exclusive Bobcat X-Change™ mounting system. The optional Hydraulic X-Change™ mounting system activates hydraulic pins for a fast hookup and removal by pressing a switch from the comfort of the cab. To see how the Hydraulic X-Change provides the easiest and most convenient attachment changes in the industry, turn to page 29 in the Attachment Catalog.

BUCKETS His fi ve buckets take on a variety of tasks. The 13-inch trenching bucket excavates for small water lines. The 18- and 24-inch buckets and clamp work in tandem in clearing applications, even taking down oak trees. Spillman uses a 36-inch bucket to load trucks. He can load 12 to 15 cubic yards of gravel or fi ll material into a truck in minutes. His 36-inch bucket also does an excellent job of smoothing the ground around new construction.
THREE-TINE GRAPPLE A Bobcat three-tine grapple helps Spillman load brush and chunks of concrete into trucks. It works very well with his clamp to handle loose material.
RIPPER “Nothing works better for loosening up hard surfaces or taking out stumps than the ripper,” Spillman says. When he needs to excavate in rocky ground, he tears up the area with the ripper to make digging easy for his bucket. He uses the attachment to break up stumps, some as big as 42 inches in diameter.
