KLM flies to Cape Town from Schiphol, Emirates operates from Dubai and Qatar Airways flies there out of Doha. Air France launches services from Paris in October.
Durban Durban is another tourism hot spot, due to its subtropical climate and extensive beaches. It has the busiest port in South Africa, and a diversified economy. There are no direct flights from the UK to Durban. Popular options include flying via Jo’burg and joining a domestic connection or flying via Dubai with Emirates.

Chengdu China’s western centre of logistics, commerce, science and finance, Chengdu has an economy based on the financial services, medicine, food, machinery and IT sectors. BA will launch three flights a week from
Heathrow to Chengdu in September. For now, KLM flies from Schiphol four times a week, as does Qatar Airways from Doha.
Xian
The capital of Shaanxi province is part of the government’s initiative to revive the economies of the country’s interior. R&D, aerospace and software are the boom sectors here. Air China flies from Heathrow to Xian daily
via Beijing. Finnair is to launch three flights a week from Heathrow and Manchester via Helsinki on June 15.
South Africa Johannesburg One of the world’s leading financial centres, Johannesburg used to count gold mining as the foundation of its economy. But reserves have dwindled, and today steel and cement plants, banking, IT and health care are the new generators of wealth. From Heathrow, South African Airways
and British Airways both fly twice-daily to Jo’burg while Virgin Atlantic operates a daily service also from Heathrow.
Cape Town
