Compressors, Welding & Soldering Equipment
Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal (solder) into the joint, the filler metal having a lower melting point than the metal to be joined. Soldering differs from welding in that soldering does not involve melting the original metal. Soldering is thought to have arisen very early in the history of
metalworking, probably before 4000 BC most commonly in the making of jewelry and statues. Welding differs from soldering in that it is often done by melting the metal
pieces and adding a filler material to form a pool of molten material. This cools to become a strong joint, with pressure sometimes used in conjunction with heat or by itself, to produce the weld. Before 1000 BC iron was forge-welded for tools, weapons, and armor. Blacksmiths used heating and hammering methods to join iron and steel. However, the high temperatures required for modern welding processes became possible only with the development of electric power in the 19th century. A visit by ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine last year to the GYS factory in France highlighted the enormous strides made in the development of modern welding machines using the latest electronic technology. The range of machines covers welding from complex to simple projects for everything from hobbies to the automobile industry. Compressors have developed from the earliest form of bellows to fuel
fires for forging tools used by Blacksmiths. Compressed air is a powerful tool and modern compressors, often powered by electricity or gas, are efficient and affordable.
New Professional Multi Process Welding Inverter
From Weldability-Sif Weldability-Sif, UK based “one stop source” for all welding products, has launched SifWeld 200 MTS a portable multi process MIG, MMA and TIG welding inverter with a integral wire feed system for D-200 (5kg) wire spools Designed for the professional fabrication welder, this new welding inverter
provides the user with an economic all-in-one machine covering 3 welding processes. It has an OCV of 63V. and a welding current range from 5 – 200A is rated 200A @ 25% duty cycle. Features of the machine include IGBT technology, operator friendly control panel with a single knob potentiometer to control all three welding process, whilst the smooth DC output is ideal for MIG welding of mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and copper alloys, it is also suitable for MMA welding and lift-arc TIG welding using the available TIG welding kit. The easy to use single knob control enables the welder to infinitely variably
adjust both the welding voltage and feed speed of wires ranging in diameter from 0.6mm – 1.0mm. The machine also has an accurately adjustable inductance setting. When MIG welding, a standard Euro fitting welding torch can be used as well
as a spool-on gun for difficult to access applications. It weighs only 25kg and is very compact measuring 44cm x 21cm x 40cm.
Options available include a 3m. reach SifGun 200A MIG Torch, SifGun Spool-on Torch, 4m. reach TIG welding kit, a 3m. reach MMA electrode holder plus a gas bottle and equipment trolley. Editor information: Weldability-Sif is a multi-million pound Company operating from purpose built
facilities in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire supplying MIG, TIG, MMA, Spot and Oxy/Fuel welding and Plasma cutting machines, torches, accessories, consumables and personal protective equipment to both the UK distributor market and exporting to a number of countries around the World. The Company’s Letchworth Garden City facility enables Distributors to single source over 2,000 different products and the Company to maintain their stock of high volume consumables including the distribution of over 4,000 tons of mild steel MIG welding wire per
annum to the market. Reply No. 44
