THE ROSE & CROWN AT YARDLEY HASTINGS TEAMS UP WITH LOCAL BREWER, FOR ITS OWN “HOUSE BREW”

T e Rose & Crown, one of the Northamptonshire premier pub restaurants has teamed up with up a new local brewer to produce its own ‘house’ brew. T e “Local Pale Ale” is a classic 3.6% shire counties beer made from fi nest East Anglian malted barley and 100% British hops. Chef proprietor Andrew Dunkley explains the thinking behind the Local, “Northamptonshire has a great heritage of brewing and with a renewed interest in real beer we felt that now was the time to nail our colours on a genuine local beer”.

Andrew and his wife Melissa approached Hart Family Brewers, a relatively new brewery based in nearby Wellingborough, to bring the plan to life. Melissa takes up the story, “We know our customers well and know what they like and so we needed a brewer that could produce a beer that would appeal to regulars at T e Rose & Crown”. Hart beers have featured on the hand pulls at the Rose & Crown regularly for the last 10 months and found favour with real ale drinkers in Yardley Hastings. Melissa continues, “Our food is made from the best produce available and real care goes into our wine selection so it made sense to ensure a genuinely local, top quality ale was always available just for our customers.”

Like the husband and wife team at T e Rose & Crown,

Hart family Brewers has been a double act with Sarah and Rob Hart running the brewing business since May 2012. Sarah explains the delight with the new beer, “When Melissa and Andrew approached us to produce their own beer we leapt at the opportunity and then came the fun process of coming up with the recipe. T ey were very clear that they wanted a traditional English county bitter, full of the fl avour of malt and hops but light enough to refresh and that’s where Rob takes over.”

T e fi rm’s brewer Rob Hart explains, “T e Local is a combination of traditional British malted barley and two English hop varieties one from Worcestershire and the other from Kent and it was great that Andrew came down to the brewery to help with the fi rst brew.”

T e Rose & Crown has been rightly celebrated for its food and wine and has built a reputation for its real ales. T e pub was voted ‘Pub Restaurant of the Year’ in the Carlsberg UK Northants Food & Drinks Awards 2011/12 and Northants CAMRA ‘Pub of the Season’ last summer. T e Local Pale Ale will be up on the bar in the last week of March and promises to be a huge success.
