TOY TALK TOYTALK

This month, the toy industry shows off its bling, ToyNews bumps into Jason Bradbury at The Gadget Show Live and we throw a spotlight on the Jumbo Games marketing team

TEAM OF THE MONTH Jumbo Games – Marketing Team

Who’s in the team? Marketing Executive Steven Russell and Marketing Manager Katherine Pierce, although there are several ‘marketing affiliates’ in the Jumbo Games office (colleagues that like to masquerade as marketeers).

Who makes the best tea? Katherine is the tea maker – she’d have to wait for Earth to freeze over to get a cup of tea out of Steven.

What’s been the team’s biggest successes? There are too many to mention of course, but recently our Wasgij 15th Anniversary diamond promotion was a great success (see ‘Industry Bling’), attracting nearly 10,000 entrants, as well as our new Wasgij.com website which is driving impressive traffic. Also, the opening day for London Toy Fair 2013 was a hit for us with our new look-stand and press attractions such as Clint Dempsey to announce SoccerSuckers and

88 May

Cherry Healey to promote iPieces.

Tell us a secret…

One member of the team has a massive crush on One Direction.

What are you working on right now? The launch for SoccerSuckers, the new football collectable which will launch mid-August for the football season, appCards activity to promote the new way of playing card games together on your smartphone and tablet, and the launch of Wasgij What If..?, our new puzzling concept which out in June.

Who’s the team joker? Steven, followed closely by our MD. We have a great office dynamic at Jumbo – we work hard but have fun.

What’s the hardest part of the job? Getting everything done in time to please the boss.

Jumbo: 01707 289289 INDUSTRY BLING

Why bother with limited edition figures when you can have jewels and solid gold toys? The toy industry really

showed off its bling recently, with Mind Candy awarding its one-of-a-kind Golden Iggy to the winner

of its toy promotion, and Jumbo Games handing out diamonds worth almost £50,000 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its Wasgij puzzle brand. The main prize was an IGI certified diamond

Starspotting

valued at £12,000, and five lucky runners-up received a round cut IGI certified diamond, each with an estimated retail value of £7,000. The ToyNewsteam has

now decided to enter more competitions…

The Gadget Show Live at the Birmingham NEC left one man completely star- struck in April. Jason Bradbury, TV

presenter and well-known face of Channel 5’s The Gadget Show, spotted the ToyNews team while

walking around the show’s trade and press day. He hurriedly scampered over to us in delight and begged us to let him have his picture taken with us. We obliged, of course, and returned the favour by printing the

image of him above. Bradbury also asked us for our autograph, along with a subscription. …you didn’t actually believe that, did you? We do tend to get a little carried away in our ToyTalk section.
